£212 Fitted in 195/45/16, I can't get anything else close to that. I've used KU31 previously and I was impressed.

I've considered Potenza RE050A, but if they're anything like RE010 or RE040 they'll be amazing for 3-4k and then crap afterwards ~£300 fitted.

Michelin PE2, the tyre made for the car they'll be going on (Clio 182) but these will be ~£400 fitted. Hard to justify the extra.

Contis? To be honest the amount of different types of Conti (3?) within a few quid of each other puts me off. Which are the best ones?

Tyres I've ruled out (excluding ditch finders:p)- Toyo T1-R/Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3/Dunlop SP Sport/Pirelli P-zero.

Anything else to consider?

Conti have probably the easiest tyre range of any manufacturer to work out.

Conti EcoContact is for shopping trollies
Conti PremiumContact is for motorway wafting
Conti SportContact3 is for performance cars

Most 182 owners will tell you to stick with the PE2's. That being said I put Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's on this time around and haven't regretted it.

Yea, but it's odd that on mytyres SportContact3 are £10 cheaper than PremiumContact2, which themselves are £5 cheaper than the ones without rim protection.

What's the difference between SportContact and SportContact3?

£243 for the SC3 + probably £20 fitting.

Leaves the question, are they £50 better than KU31...

Can't hang around either, i'm down to about 2mm, legal but not ideal!

I wouldnt put Kumho's on mine, the only credibility they seem to get are people on the internet going on about how great they are after they saved a load of money, don't seem to do that well in objective tests. Just my thoughts though, obviously.

RS2s?

very reasonably priced. then again it depends entirely on the compound/design of what the clio is designed for.

a great tyre can be great on one car, crap on another. must be some reviews from some knowledgeable chaps on the clio forums?

KU31 were just as good as Potenza RE010 on my old Civic. KU31 edging it in the wet.

Tempted by the PE2 @ Costco deal now, argh:p

KU31s got a decent rating in the 2007 Evo tyre test, didn't they?

I know people who swear by them, I also know people who think they are horrible, reporting a loss in "feel".

I've got KU31s on my 182, no comlaints from me but driving hard enough to run out of grip is pretty rare any way I find. I was happy to save a few quid and have no noticable performance issues.

The KU31 are highly rated on the VX220 and Elise as a all year tyre, and my VX has them all round which have never let me down. With that said I plan to try the R1R's next time.

I think tyres are very car dependant, so best looking on the owners forum to see what people think.

Says it all really doesn't it, highly rated as an 'all year' tyre? None of the performance SUMMER tyres can really be regarded as that! They are useless in the snow etc..

That is not what I meant by all year round. A lot of Elise and VX owners run their cars only in the summer and dry and have 888's etc. If you drive your car come rain or shine (as I do) KU31's are a very good option. Quite a few people use 888 in the summer and KU31's on a spare set of rims in the winter.

Surely if they have a set of rims only used in the winter they would be better off fitting winter tyres to them!? Not people I'd be taking tyre advice from personally, seems a huge missed opportunity picking a summer tyre for winter only use
