thinking about starting a hand car wash business, only really want to try it out at the weekends just now to gauge interest
it would be on land which is currently owned but only paying private council tax rates
obviously I'm going to contact the council/H+S about drainage etc but the main thing i'm worried about is having to pay business rates

anyone any idea how much more tax is likely to be?
or any other costs that could be significant ?

I am sure you would be fine to try it just for the weekend. Get your son or daughter to come along (if you dont have one then borrow a friends haha) and if anyone asks say you are doing it with the kids for a bit of a laugh!

Not sure about the question, but you really need to get a mahoosive sign saying:

'The Ultimate Handjob - £10' to hang out front...........

its not really a great time to start.

Around my area, there is a hand carwash every 100ft or so.

It literally is just car wash after carwash

You need to speak to someone at the VOA (Valuation Office Agency) to come out a value the land from a business rate point of view.

I had to have this done as I have garage and a yard to the rear of my house which I use for my business.

you need women in bikinis for any sort of success

He just needs to find an area in his city where there isn't many. There's loads in my city but near where I live there's only one and it's on a main road in a mainly middle-class area. That car wash is full ALL the time and I'm not even exaggerating. Last I went I tried to go early at 11am on a weekday to avoid waiting and there was a queue of ten cars and they were washing another five. It's not like they even do a good wash. They always leave water marks and last time they didn't even clean the bird **** from my car properly. They normally just open the door and apologise for anything they've missed ''because it's really busy''. I still end up going there because it's very close and all the others mean 15+min drive into some questionable areas.

MY EYES !!!!! :eek::mad::(

Are those even women ?
I'd consider those more of an ''it'' than a ''she''.

Well at least it would be the quickest car wash ever, one wipe over the bonnet with her belly and the bonnet is done! :p

Are these places actually very profitable if run legitimately? I thought a large portion of them are used as an easy cash business to launder drug money etc...

Car wash takes less than 5minutes per car multiply that by average of £7 each car means you're looking at about £84 per hour. That's not taking into account tips and wax and interior extras. A place who have set themselves up properly can probably churn out a car a minute thus increasing their potential earnings.
