Boat owners, where art thou !?

what's wrong with having a hobby other than snide spam?

Because on these forums, as in life, you're not allowed to have anything expensive others don't, otherwise the playground cat calling commences. A few years back I was asking about double glazing for our holiday home in Greece and the thread melted down into a 'willy waving' accusation. A while back I also made a passing remark about two old jetski's we bought and I was accused yet again.

To keep the peace from now on, I admit to rented council accomodation, old beat up car and 20k credit card debts so I can be like everyone else here. That satisfies people.

Anyway, nice boats guys. When we move to our new place in Austria with its surrounding lakes ..... eh, I mean, our new council gaff with the Dog and Duck just round the corner ... I'm in the market for a cheap(ish) boat too.
Prefer big lakes to the ocean as I get violently seasick :(

Buy my one and tow it there on the back of the cortina :)

I'm glad you guys can appreciate the pain of that photo. It was horrible dragging her to the shore :(

If anyone does want to donate an outboard, 50-80hp, ideally trim & tilt, you'd repair this broken heart.

Can you just buy a boat and go for a sail or do you need a license and that kind of boring stuff? It would be awesome on a sunny day.

Depends where you want to go boating. You need to register the boat and get a license for the Thames for example.

You are best off taking the couple of courses for going out to sea though, i cant remember the name of them off hand, i never bother as i only do the river boating thing.

RYA training would be a good idea to get you started. Dont justy buy a boat, sail or power, and go out - its how you end up in trouble which in turn costs thousands and puts other lives at risk when the RNLI come out to rescue you!

Safe navigation, basic rules of the sea, basic chartwork, boat handling skills etc are important for both power and sail and not only make it more fun for all, but could save your life.

The best way to get started is to strike up a conversation with a boat owner, on a forum, or even in real life (heaven forbid ;)). A lot of people are happy to take others out for a spin.

Always liked the idea of a boat, of course if I had a boat it would 'have' to be V8 powered (at least 1) though. The main issue for me is I live over 100 miles from the sea in any direction and there are no large lakes around here.

Do any of you keep your boat on a mooring? A few of us are thinking of clubbing together next year for something too big to tow.

Yea iv got one moored at Hoo marina which is for sale and one moored at Henley on the Thames that i just bought.

I know this is a motors forum so I'd expect it to be full of stinkies - but - this is ours, a proper boat!

That looks lovely.

Trouble is boating skills are required for them, something i sadly dont have :)

because on these forums you get trolls, who like nothing more than upsetting other users.

Nothing to do with pretending you rent a council house and are in debt.

There are worse, at least you can have a few quid on here and not get slagged every time :)

I think these forums are very good really, you just need to know the 'culture' so to speak.

Living in a council house with 20k debt is more likely to put you on the 'wrong' side of the Motors Forum culture divide if anything.
