Being Polish I would tend to go for 3 kisses to the cheek for all family (mainly those older than me) including uncles/cousins etc so it's not just mum/aunt!

Otherwise it's a firm handshake and/or a hug.

OK, i am now thinking there should have been another option added!
I dont kiss my mum, BUT, i dont / do think its OK to do so:)

I'm not surprised at the numbers. It's not a very British thing to do. I kiss both m mother and father but that's just the Med and French culture. I see it as perfectly normal. But I am also extemely close to my parents in fact my whole family is rather close and open which I love. I'd struggle with being distant from family. They are both my parents, mentors and also my friends.

I wonder if on the continent people tend to have closer family units? I know on my Cypriot and French side we're all inseparable!

I kiss my mum and the most of my friends do. There is nothing bad about it, it's absolutely natural. You kiss someone you love on the cheek. There is nothing sexual about it and no one should be ashamed of it. :)

I kiss mu mum on the cheek when saying goodbye, and give my dad a hug. But i don't generally see them for months at a time, so its a nice way to say goodbye.
