ireland has no orange!

I went to spain recently and have done twice in the past on orange PAYG and it automatically picked up another network(Movistar). Recently however i moved to orange contract and went to spain last week and it never picked up a network , found out you had to tell orange 24hours before you went :(

It is most likely a good idea that you do not dispense advice on a subject it is clear you know nothing about. There will be no charge for receiving texts, only for receiving calls.

Oh no i bow down to the knowledge of a faceless forum guy i dont care about.

Edit - and being with vodafone i used to get charged to receive texts in the south of ireland, hence why i didnt say "You will definately get charged" as im not familiar with orange.

Do Movistar partner with everyone? I've been to Spain on O2, 3, and Vodafone and every time it's been Movistar. Except now I think about it, maybe not Vodafone.

I've been abroad with my old phone on pay as you go on o2 and had no problems but recently switched to Orange on contract with a new phone and now can't connect to any networks in Ireland . Anyway my mate has paid for roaming so I can use his phone for the two days :p thanks for the responses guys.

I agree with [TW]Fox you will not be charged to receive SMS on a UK mobile whilst roaming abroad.

No UK network charges to receive incoming SMS whilst abroad.

No, you didn't.

Vodafone said:
Sending text messages from the UK to an international mobile number costs 24p per message (inc.VAT). Receiving messages from abroad is free if you are in the UK, however some international networks may charge you to receive text messages while you’re abroad.

Take note of that last bit

Edit - And when i used to get charged to receive texts, this was about 8 years ago or more.

Right so basically, no sending texts and no calling/accepting calls. Thanks team OCUK! *internet high faiv*

Sending a call to voicemail costs you money. So not accepting calls is a bit of a problem. You'll have to turn it off.

Some irrelevent stuff

You dont give up do you?

You are not charged for receiving a text message on a Vodafone mobile roaming in Ireland. Zero. Nil. Nada. Zilch. Nothing. Gratis.

Perhaps Azerbijani Telecom might charge you but none of the countries mentioned in this thread do nor have they done for a very, very long time. And once you go back more than 8 years what on earth is the point in even mentioning it? You might as well pop into General Hardware and post some Pentium 3 benchmarks.

No

In the context of this thread, Ireland is the ROI.

You assume this from where ??

The post you replied to said

Just to hijack the thread briefly, on a Vodafone contract, will I be affected at all when I'm in Ireland?

You dont know if its ROI or NI he is referring to and you stating that he will definitely be charged without finding out, or simply putting a caveat in that says something like "only in ROI, not NI", may mislead some people on this thread to think they will need roaming to go to NI which is simply not the case....

Am I wrong ??

He's quite clearly talking about the ROI as he says there is no Orange there.
