Oh dear.

I have been using my laptop most of the day and literally 5 minutes ago I opened a video on Youtube and after I finished it an alert in the taskbar pops up and says that my computer is at risk. I thought it was really suspicious when an antivirus program that I had never heard of popped up out of no where and started doing a "Virus Scan". Then I tried to open Taskmanager and a warning opened saying "tskmngr.exe is infected would you like to run a virus scan now?". Then I tried to go on OcUK on my laptop then it says that chrome.exe is infected and that I will have to pay for internet security. Nothing works now and I am writing this on my other computer. I have quite a lot of stuff I would like to keep on my laptop and I really don't want to do another format and spend the next week trying to update Windows XP.

Please help me guys!

Btw the suspected virus is called AV Security Suite.

Thank you so much for the speedy replies people! I'm off to restart my lappy and do as that page instructed and get malwarebytes.

I much prefer XP to Vista or 7, I will be getting 7 for my new PC soon but I'll try and find a theme that is like XP because I love it so much. It's hard to change after more than 8 years of using it! :p

That's what I said. Then after a couple of weeks I realised that every time I went back to XP (friends and family's computers) I was forever reaching for awesome little features and settings that just weren't there. :( Seven had literally grown on me without my realising it and I wouldn't have it any other way now.

Then I grew up and installed Linux. :p

Windows classic theme for the win. :D Much, much better than the normal 7 tripe!

Well thanks for your help guys. I managed to get the virus removed with the help of malwarebytes after a few long hours of scanning on my very slow lappy. :D

The only thing I can't work out is where it came from. I got it straight after I watched a Youtube video.

If you should get an email with the subject Stinky Cheese, better not going taking your chances, under no circumstances should you open it it, or else it will...

Translate your documents into Swahili, make your TV record Gigli, neuter your pets and give your laundry static cling!

Look out! It'll make your computer screen freeze! Look out! Erase the easter eggs off your DVDs! Look out! Erase your hard drives and your backups too, and the hard driver of anyone related to yooooou!

Sorry, nothing much to add. I was drawn in by the title.
