I played for just under an hour last night. Only really went on to try some chopper flying. Some thoughts on the good things:
- Flying is easier/better now. After discussion in vent we determine it to it being made "light" so it actually moves quicker and responds unlike the previous dead weight chopper. The Apache is just better all around and the Hind whilst still slower to gain altitude can pretty much turn on a pin.
- Smoke/Use of "Counter measures" seems good but not 100% effective. Having said that with the new maneuverability I think avoiding rockets is going to be much easier anyway.
- Standard pilot salvo missiles: Improved without the use of VWARHD. Probably full on lol 1 missile kills with it on.
- It seems that the take off time for the pilot once the chopper has landed is much quicker.
- Tracer is slower and harder to hit a chopper now. With a good pilot it will be even harder I guess.
Some bad things:
- As mentioned, the AA gun was previously a PITA for putting the chopper off it's flight path. That has gotten much worse due to the chopper being lighter. Therefore if you are getting shot at AA the pilot as no chance of shooting it down and the gunner won't have much more luck unless the pilot can get out of dodge.
- Friendly fire/grieving is easier now due to the same reason. People who fire at you when taking off for whatever reason on your own team will likely send the chopper into a spiral and you end up crashing.
That being said I love the new changes for choppering. Kearney and I had a go last night and instantly it felt better and after a little getting used too I think I was on 11/3 as the pilot and Kearney was something like 18/4 (top of team) with a bucket load of points.
Problem being every man and his dog wants to fly the chopper now. Many maps had 5/6 people queing at the chopper spawn and shooting you down (Friendly Fire) if you managed to get in there first.
Hopefully after the patch hysteria wears off it will return to normal. Every other fix I've witnessed so far is cool, with the exception of increased hit boxes. The tactic for that is to crouch and stand still when shooting/being shot at I guess?
The new queuing system sounds awesome although I'm yet to use it!
