SETI@home Announcement
For those that aren't aware, from now on Berkeley will be changing their weekly planned outage from a few hours on Tuesday to three days (Tuesday-Thursday). If this impacts on the news then I will consider shifting it to a day when the outage is not in effect; otherwise it will continue to be posted on Thursdays.

Our RAC has dropped again, but only because of the ongoing problems at Berkeley so there is nothing to worry about!

Welcome to the new members, and as always congrats to the tiffy winners! Don’t forget that you can get your tiffies from www.teamocuk.co.uk; simply click on your username, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the relevant urls to display them in all their Technicolor beauty on this forum! If you think you have been missed off the milestones list, please let me know and I’ll add you manually.

Thanks for the news TT (noticed how i crept passed you in the dead of night :D)
Nice tiffy pnutty well done!!....keep an eye out over your shoulder your in my field of vision :D

Aye Toxic, I did notice... I'm actually getting fed up with the taste of dust now, but unfortunately there's not a right lot I can do about it other than let you young upstarts waltz off into the sunset and claim all the decent cells. Ne'er mind, I'm quite at home in my dank, draughty cell as it's all I've known for the past six years :(

DOH! Got you now.

Wait, 3.5 million? That means you've stomped me!

Note to self: Stop slacking!

Don't you just hate it when that happens??

Cheers for the news TT - here is hoping Borkley can hold up under the strain when things come back online later today. I have a big dump of credit to go through - so big I have been practicing my squats to help it along :p

Edge thats just gross, i put my trust in laxatives for days such as this :p:)
On a plus side barring unforseen misshaps Matt says they'll be switching on this morning, they've been jigging about with servers and there's plenty of work ready to be sent...hurrah! :D

Thanks for the news. :)

Though I do note I still haven't got that tiffy mention yet. They come few and far between up here.

From the seti forums....

Barring unexpected incident, we'll be turning the spigots back on tomorrow (Friday) morning as planned. Thanks for your patience as we sort out what kind of server outage schedule ends up being the most productive - a definite work in progress. So what did we accomplish this week during the downtime?

Programming wise, Jeff was able to tackle some longstanding datarecorder issues. You may have noticed our results-to-send queue has been growing rather large - these are some test tapes Jeff's been splitting which will be sent out rather quickly once the floodgates open (the status page already shows the schedulers are up which is wrong - that's a bug I need to fix). I did some cleanup of our various internal libraries - stuff that would never get done under normal-operation circumstances but has been bugging us for a long time. I also fixed a web site bug here, a donation processing bug there.

Server wise, I got to upgrade the OS/mysql versions on the BOINC database servers - another thing that's been bothering me for a while. We also were able to do some testing/planning for some major server shuffling - trying to get the right services on the right servers, and the most important services on the most reliable servers. We still may have to get new hardware. I'll let you know.

Data wise, we were able to get back to merging our various spike tables together full bore - doing so while the project was up was causing all kinds of headaches. We'll have to turn the merge off over the weekend, of course. I also was able to do a whole bunch of data integrity testing - it's nice to be able to pull 1 Gbyte of signals out of the science database without the query getting blocked, or worrying about blocking other queries.

In short, it may not seem like much this first week given the extended downtime, but the mood around here is a lot better when we have the time and resources to take care of longstanding projects without worrying about squeezing them in edgewise. I think general productivity will vastly improve over time, and we'll adjust the outage schedules accordingly.

Speaking of time, I'm actually outta here - going on a three week vacation for various reasons. It'll actually be a "staycation" so I'll be on call to help in case of a crisis...

- Matt

Looks like they have got a few things going on that could be good...

Morning Edge if moral there is better things are bound to improve over time, fingers crossed.
All rigs are now running correctly app_info wise thanks to you guys have even opted to do astropulse, installed new gpu's in 2 machines so am looking for a good increase in rac over the coming week. Only slight niggle is temperatures i know i should have stuck with 470 blast it.
Just out of curiosity how do you know you have an Astrop task does it use cpu or gpu and is the credit in relation to time taken for task good?
Have a good day all :D:D:D

AP uses CPU, you will see it listed in the Seti Manager or Boinctasks or whatever you use to monitor your machines.

Or in taskmanager you will see the astropulse exe running.

Ahh right thanks for that Biffa, luckily today seems a bit cooler but the heat is wearing me down.
If i had known that oc would be stocking the evga hy copp i would have waited but the buy now button was too tempting. Do you have any reccomendations when it comes to watercooling, was thinking maybe i could cool the gpu first and the cpu later as it has the h50 on it at present which seems ok though i have'nt overclocked it yet....cheers :D

Thanks for the news. :)

Though I do note I still haven't got that tiffy mention yet. They come few and far between up here.

Yes... sorry about that :o

My excuse is that I'm blonde. (Or rather, what little hair I have remaining is blonde.) Anyhow, have added you to the list now. So stop yer whining, ok? :p :D

Thanks for the news TT. Really bad week for me, still plugging through GPU units on the CPU :o. Only about 150 of them left now. After that I can change back over to Windows 7 and put this GTX 260 to work :D

:p

And the uploads have started...

edit - it's going to take a while, I had about 6 go through, now Im getting project back off again, but the link is maxed out so to be expected.

edit 2 - Now Im getting Internet servers are down...
