Mobile Me

Guys,

I have the trial and an upgrade key from CEX which expires in about 40 days.

I get a lot of email, and worry that with my iDisk usage I will soon fill it up.

I also have it on my iphone so worry about filling that up also, so, is there any way to archive into outlook 2007? So that only my current email (last 6mths) is kept on mobile me?

Cheers

Is the @mac.com and @me.com the same email? Like @gmail.com and @googlemail.com :)

Yup.

I'm not sure if new members can specify @mac.com addresses, but I just use @mac.com whenever it asks me to sign in or when I configure Mail on an iPhone/Mac etc and it "just works". For example, my preference pane at me.com:

I don't bother using aliases, but I tend to use my gmail account for spammy accounts or sign ins.

GAFYD - Google Apps For Your Domain. You need to change some settings in your domain control panel to point it toward Google's servers.

What you can get is basically; browse to mail.yourdomain.com, enter login details and be presented with a Gmail interface but for your own domain emails. It also works with calendar, documents and Google Sites.

So you can have calendar.blah.com, docs.blah.com.

On an iOS device, you setup Google push (m.google.com) in exactly the same way, but with your own domain email address instead of an @gmail.com one.

* NB - There is a free version and a pay version (aimed at businesses). The free version gives you essentially the same what you'd normally get with a Gmail account in terms of storage space. The pay version supports more email aliases, more storage and video amongst other things. The free version is more than adequate for a home user.

There's a great guide to setting up Google Apps within Mail on the TMO site, it was discussed at length a while back in the Mac Geek Gab podcast. Since then I've moved all the domains I host onto the free Google Apps and it works really well.

The guide is here and if you're using an adblocker you'll need to turn it off.

Anyone?

I hardly doubt it will fill up...you can't honestly have 20GB worth of emails in the past 90 days or so? :o

Sorry, maybe you misunderstood.

I get a lot of email and I keep everything. I will use the 20GB, maybe in a year. So would like to be able to Archive it onto outlook.

Forget anything about the trial or 90 days...

Question still stands...about how much would you use for email and how much for everything else on idisk?

Could always do a back up to a external hdd or even get a drop box account for old files. :)

Going to let someone else answer about backing up to Outlook - I imagine that it can be done though. ;)

Its not the files that are the problem, its the emails. I want to be able to take the emails off mobile me, so that they can still be accessable when i need them at a later date, and keep the mobile me account tidy. I dont need access to the old emails online or on the iPhone but would be nice to be able to access through outlook or something.

Just to let everyone know that MobileMe has been updated to add support for Outlook 2010 on PC's and Exchange calender support. You need to install the MobileMe control panel 1.6.1 update through Apple Software Update.

Apple are also beta testing a new calendar interface on me.com

Had a big problem with Mobile Me the other day. Lost all my contacts and calendar events. They were still visible on me.com but somehow the sync server was empty, so me.com was pushing empty contacts and calendars, effectively wiping the data on all my synced devices.

Support guy managed to send me backups, but still not resolved the sync problems. As I've resynced from my mac to me.com and then synced back down from me.com to mac and it erased my stuff again.

The irony being they advised me to make a backup of my me.com data, which I found kind of ridiculous because I have it in my mind that is the backup.
