What is FAST and are you ?

I wouldn't say mine is fast but it beats your average corsa/ clio/ generic crapmobile.

I do the traffic light GP not as a race against others but purely because I hate going anywhere slow. The main idea of a car is to get there faster than walking, why not as fast as you can?

My grandad is always on about taking it slow, and enjoying the ride. I fail to see how you can enjoy the ride if you've taken 20 minutes to make a journey you could have done in 10. A massive waste of time, I could have stopped and had a cuppa.

I take it you live in the country then, because what you are suggesting doing in a city dosent work unless its 3am.

Take your time, you will crash less.

As many others have already said, fast is relative, both to your perceptions and to what else is about.

I consider my car to be fast, certainly compared to most other cars around. Bikes are a different story. Are there faster cars? always, but that's not the point really.

Live in swindon, no speed cameras. Work 6-2 monday - friday and 8- 4 sundays so don't get rush hour delays.
You've gotta be nuts to own a car in a busy city, I wouldn't live in a busy city, but if I did, i'd get a motorcycle.

I'll crash less, not had a crash yet, been driving well over a year. If I'd driven slow for all that time I would have wasted a significant amount of my life, travelling to places. I like driving, but if i'm just going out for a bit of shopping I just wanna go there, buy, and get home in as short a timespace as possible. This is the reason I also walk faster than most.

A whole year driving, no your right, the saving in time will have been considerable, my bad.

Fast is about in gear acceleration. 3rd - 50mph to 80mph. That sort of thing.

I rarely get involved in the traffic light GP's, torque limited in 1st and 2nd means it's pointless.

I do a lot of miles with work. With my driving I save maybe 15 minutes a day on average, probably more. Over the course of a year i've saved over 91 hours behind the wheel. Thats nearly 4 days
Mr cocky.
And I'm nearing the end of my second year of driving now.

It's like people who stay late at work, I refuse to come in early or stay a minute late. A few minutes every shift adds up to several hours every year which I'm not being paid for.
It's a question of timesaving and efficiency.

91 hours, that's fantastic. Keep it up.

How much does your time cost, and how does the time saving compare to the additional fuel expenditure of such aggressive driving habits?

Likewise in employment, how much do you lose in promotion/discretionary bonus for saving a few hours each year?

Never mind the fuel and the fact he is a real asset in his work place, the best bit is when he has the inevitable crash, the time wasted will negate his amazing savings.

I suppose I'm in the fast category, but after six years of ownership and having also got my bike licence in that time, it's just a form of transport now. I never floor it much anymore.

Or you could just get up 15 minutes early, and not drive like an idiot.

Just a thought.

Fuel card, nothing. Works van, all maintainance paid for.
In the bora, not fussed at all, it doesn't get driven a huge amount at the moment anyway.

In tescos, I spent most shifts having full on arguments with managers for being incoherant retards who lack proper management skills, leaving me with an unsafe work enviroment and ridiculous workload (They doubled my department size, 2 people left, they never replaced them) and eventually told them to stick it as soon as I finished college to take up more hours in my other job.
Don't care about my current job in landscaping, I like it but I'm going uni in september. The workload is manageable and any neccesary overtime is paid anyway.

Give me a decent job after uni, with actual prospects then we'll talk about maybe giving a little extra time.

I usually have to be on the road for 4/5 oclock in the morning, I get usually less than 5 hours a night. I'd rather sleep for an extra 15 mins thanks.

Go to bed earlier.

Take it from somebody that really does a lot of miles at work - you could say I DO get around! :p- your not geting enough sleep and as a concequence are a danger to yourself and others around you.

Have an accident due to tiredness - which is VERY common - and I guarantee , if your lucky, you'll lose the 4 days again whilst in Hospital, assuming you have not lost your life.

FWIW, I have been driving for longer than you have been breathing sir, PLEASE heed my well intentioned advice. :)

So somehow you are justifying your illegal driving by saying that you hate your job?

How does that work? Does driving quickly everywhere make time slow down? I'm no quantum scientist, but I'm fairly sure the time dilation effect only appears when you are travelling at a decent percentage of the speed of light. And I'm not sure that a diesel van navigating the one-way system in Swindon is capable of such speeds. Even if being driven badly by an idiot.

Fast can be both relative and empirical. I know categorically that neither of our cars are fast compared to say, a Zonda, however the quicker one certainly feels fast when you've been in the slower one for a few days. It's also quicker than 99%* of cars at any traffic light GP I've ever participated in.......as I only ever take part if I'm likely to win a 0-30 dash. ;)

i drove a BMW 7 series today, and i had real trouble keeping it down to 30 - i had to keep looking at the speedo as the absolute lack of speed sensation was disconcerting.

Some cars dont feel fast when they are going fast, others feel like they are going fast even when they are not.

I see my derv alfa as slow with a 0-60 in around 8.5ish.
The sierras quick at 4.5 to 60 and anything in my eyes that beats it is rapid. i dont know what the 0-100 is or the 30-80 ive never done an event where thave timed that and as for top speed again i dont know i didnt have the guts to take it to the limmiter in 5th, i was seariously running out of runway.

i dont think that the talk about bhp per tonne is that relivent, the sierra is 280bhp and that works out at around 233bhp/ton and its far quicker that allot of cars with higher figuers.
The 0-60 wouls be quicker, but i have to use 3 gears to get to 60 and the MT75 gearbox dosnt like to change fast

Personally I like to hoon it from traffic lights because I like the sensation. I don't care whether my car is fast or slow compared to other cars, I can't afford anything else so I simply get my enjoyment from what I have :)
