UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin (Sat, July 3rd 2010)

Brock Lesnar is one tough son of a... How he survived that ground and pound I dont know - you could certainly argue that there could have been a stoppage in there as he was eating shots. But he rallied in the second, was shocked when he moved into mount and then jumped out of it for an arm triangle, I was expecting ground and pound, but then cinched it tight, great victory.

Nice to see him a bit more humble too, tonight and in other interviews, he not as much of a ***** as he used to be.

Good fight, I don't see Velasquez giving him too many problems.

Haha, who would have predicted that!? If someone told me Lesnar would arm triangle Carwin I would have had them sectioned.

Carwin never really rocked Brock, but he certainly hit him! Lesnar didn't like it one bit but he never went out or was even close to being out. When he covered up his forearms blocked pretty much all the punches due to the sheer size of them!

I think Valesquez stands a decent chance against Brock due to his speed though, Brock looked very slow and cumbersome standing.

Said it all along Brock is no freaking joke, he is a machine and in my opinion the toughest heavyweight the division has seen in years. I honestly think that if people are to stay in the heavyweight division with this guy they need to either bulk up or attach a rocket to their gloves because he is physically on another level.

Good luck to Lesnar's next opponent, he'll ****ing need it.

He took everything Carwin had to give him and still won. I am so bloody glad that it wasn't a different ref as I'm sure the fight would have been stopped in the first round.

I keep looking at the the end of the first round on sky+ and I have come to the conclusion the referee should have stopped it as Lesnar wasn't protecting sufficiently in my opinion. Carwin is a tit though for not training to go the distance!

He was protecting himself fully the full time you could tell he was not out, it was close but his hands never dropped when he was on the floor and he was always moving frequently. I think it was VERY close but I mean if Lesnar came back to win the fight then it was an amazing decision :P

Unbelievable ending to the Lesnar/Carwin fight, almost as gobsmacking as the Fedor/Werdum fight!

Brock was very close to being stopped in the first round but he did a good job of covering up on the ground and he did just enough to keep the fight going. I think it looked a lot worse than it actually was, luckily for Brock.

As most MMA fans suspected Carwin's stand up was superior but who could have guessed Lesnar would take Carwin down, advance position and sub him with an arm triangle!? Just goes to show how much Lesnar has evolved as a fighter, weathering the early storm and using his brain to quickly finish his, now tired, opponent.

Velasquez poses an entirely different threat to Brock in that he has an unrelenting pace and great cardio, I doubt his stand up will pose much of a threat though. Brock is the much larger man and if Cain finds himself underneath of him it'll be over very quickly.

Great night of fights, this one didn't disappoint!

I've never seen somebody take so much in a UFC fight and still get up. Carwin should have won in the first round IMO. Carwin was 100% gassed in the second.

I don't really rate Brock as one of the best UFC fighters but he is no doubt the toughest in the UFC today. The guy is something else.

best card for a while that. enjoyed every fight.

as for carwin vs brock i've seen fights stopped for less but maybe my bias towards carwin is clouding my judgement
