UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin (Sat, July 3rd 2010)

Hasnt Dana already said the winner of Big Country vs Dos Santos will get the next shot at Lesnar or Velasquez??
I cant wait to see if Big Country can cut it with a top 10 heavyweight! :p

Lesnar will take Velasquez IMO, he's just not quite big enough to hang with the monsters of the division! Very talented guy but if Brock takes him down and G'n'P's him then its all over!

If I had to put money on Velasquez or Lesnar I would bet on Velasquez.

He has the best MMA style wrestling in the HW division, what he lacks in strength he makes up for in technique.

His hands are fast and precise, and pack some power too as he showed us vs Big Nog.

He pushes a furious pace and seemingly has endless cardio, I would imagine the game plan would be to use this to his advantage and take advantage in the later rounds.

He has a decent chin, watch his fight with Cheick Kongo at UFC 99, he took a licking and kept on ticking!

Thing is though, unless you are a submission expert from the bottom you are done for if Brock takes you down

for ref stoppage you should watch strike force from the other weekend with Cyborg vs another lady. that fight should have been stopped before it started. or at least before the 2nd round.

I see this, it should have been stopped early on she was being completely destroyed.

Another fight I can think of recently is Overeem vs Rogers, Rogers is on the floor and he curls up and does NOTHING what so ever.

Im always amazed when brock fights. Just his raw power and speed is awesome.

Certainly wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him.

Nah, Mir got lucky the first time. It won't happen again, Brock has learnt a lot since then.

Mir was talking about dropping to 205 not long ago, would be interested to see what he can do.

Last he said is he wants to avenge his loss to shane and then go for brock again.

Mir didnt get lucky he has great submission skills and used it to overcome the giant that is Brock, he knew he didnt have such rounded skills when he came in also.

I dont think you can ever rule out Frank mir or Shane Carwin, true Brock is looking in a class of his own but if anyone has shown Mir certainly has. Now if Brock rematches Shane and Mir and beats them again then id agree hes truely the champion and on another level, but 5 fights I reckon hes still got a lot to learn and do.

Cain will be a great fight and a good show, lets hope ufc announces it for this fall !

Next real challenge? Shane Carwin of course. If he can work on his cardio and be able to last a whole fight then he's got a good chance of beating Brock.

I agree with regards Carwin, it was only his cardio that beat him and he has the size and strength to match Lesnar, plus a little more work on his groundwork, he'd have a great chance.

The problem is that Brock is learning all the time, so will only improve as well.

Agreed Carwin still the no1 contender, who else can make Lesnars chin get tested, buckle his legs and then make him fall backwards and cower on the floor;)

Carwin clearly says it wasnt cardio though, his body just cramped and stopped working for round 2 he was worried about this so went to hospital straight afterwards while Lesnar just got stitches and was ready to attend the conference afterwards.

I dont think Shane carwins been in such a big promotion/fight and maybe the nerves/anxiety got to him eventually, who knows for sure. But as it stands least the heavy weight division just got a lot better, MMA list around the world got updated and brocks no1, mir/Shane at top also fedar still around and even not in some top 10 list?! things definatly got shaken up and different.

I fail to see how anyone can dislike Lesnar when he's beaten everyone, without being cocky like Silva

I don't like the way he gets treated better than people who have given their whole lives to the sport, he waltzes in and gets a half million dollar pay check.

He hasn't beaten everyone, far from it.

He gets that sort of money, because of the WWE fans, amongst others, that now watch the UFC because of him competing with them.

I think Brocks great, but even I wanted Shane Carwin to win so badly in fact lost a £20 bet ! Something about the underdog really, and I really like Frank Mir and Shane Carwin like them more then ever but id love too see the rematches against both of them and against Brock.

It was amazing too see Brocks chin get tested but if anything its proven he can be beaten its not gonna be easy but possible.

I think Brock was put straight forward in the top rankings and got to his position far too quick, he should have had at least 6-8 fights and then title shot also, and I agree on your point $400k he got just to step into the octagon and dont forget he got $75k bonus which wasnt even his really and + dana proberly gave him a more, while Shane got $40k.

True Brock brings the audience/WWF fans/PPV madness so he deserves it but not that much ! if Shane got paid $100-150K+ then id be more happy.

If Shane had won no doubt his next fight would be $250K+ easily ;)

Just watched this, cracking event all round. Amazed Brock could get up after that but he's a tough cookie. Best event in a long time.
