Living 'costs at least £14,400' for a single person

mummy and daddy pay...

Jealous much? ;)

Either way most of those people probably don't get the potentially thousands in grants that others get. As already mentioned he has 4,700 given to him. I had 3,300 for me to live on, all of it paid back...:p

Club runs are are between 100 and 180 miles for me at home. 20mph is fast if I could do it all the time :p I had to sped 180 quid on some new wheels not so long ago, then 50 quid yesterday for some new bar tape and pedals, then need new cleats, tyres, brake blocks, cleaning stuff, and my commuter needs maintenance too, quite an expensive hobby. I only spend about 20 quid max a week on food.

I finished this year with over 600 quid of my loan left, but I'm carrying it over to next year to pay for the rent that has gone up from 83 quid a week to £94

I guess over 180 miles 20mph is fast. :p

I was thinking more 60 miles as I used to be able to do 30+miles at an average of 10mph, on a mtb mostly off road (and I really wasn't fit).

the question is then is having to share your home and have no privacy considered a good standard of living ?

Yes it is.

Having your own place is a bit higher up the scale than sharing a perfectly good property with some people.

I'd rather share in a nice place than have my own dump of a place.

Y
That's a massive generalisation. Get clued up then come back to the thread.

No, it is not. You CHOSE to spend £900 per month on a rental property, you do not HAVE to. You could move a short distance, there is nowhere in the south east that does not have significantly cheaper places to rent within a short distance, bar London. A city which you can move out of if you are in such hardship as to have no disposable income.

I am very clued up about rental, i would say i am possibly one of the most clued up person on this whole forum on the subject. I manage the day to day of a growing and becoming fairly sizable portfolio.

Easily do able. £14440 - £990 a month

3 person house -

325 rent inc council, water, electric
15 gas
20 net, sky
100 food
bus 40

£440 for saving/car/going out/buying stuff

Well, as a student I got a total of about £8000 for a year.

My rent cost £390 pcm = £4,290 as I'm moving out after 11 months. Half the money gone already.

However, I still managed to live comfortably enough. Obviously had to look for deals when shopping and such but I haven't gone hungry nor struggled to go out. When I do find eventual full time employment, whatever I get paid will be amazing to me even if it's £15000.

well on top of the 19.5k theres about £45 week in tax credits ,only one of my kids is 19 or under so is included ,then there is child beneit that all parents get
but yes sukh ,they get a lot of help with grants plus bursarys at uni.
we run a very tight ship so we can afford the months away in cornwall plus plus car ect ,in afew months £650 a month will be added to our budget so may consider a place in greece as well tbh, see how things go

Sorry I don't really understand how this all works. You can afford to run a household of 4 people *and* have a second home on £19.5k a year? Thats... £1300 a month after tax tops surely? And by adding just £650 a month to this you can... consider buying a house in a Greece?!

3 houses AND a family on below average wage? I don't get it? I earn more than that and I'm going to be able to just about manage one place let alone three one of which is in a foreign country and I don't have ANY dependants, you have 3 of them?!

A lot of people I know struggle to live alone for £19.5k a year - well struggle is a strong word but they'd burst out laughing if I suggested they purchased a holiday home! Yet you can... leave AND support 3 other people?

its all about money management, some people spend money on different things, i spend £10 a week on food because buying premium brands doesnt interest me as my money goes into cars.

he might be the same, doesnt buy expensive computers, gadgets or cars.

I know if i was on £19.5k a year and had no mortgage(like he say he will have shortly) then thats a lot of disposable income to play with every month

I wonder if the house in Cornwall and the soon to be house elsewhere are morgaged. That or timeshared? Or alternatively he could have got some money from somewhere else to pay for the second home?

because 3 adults always live together? 40 probably isnt enough for busfare either if your talking a month because even for a short journey that takes 5mins i would pay over £2 for a return

Isn't that a week?

Either way short bus trips cost a fortune compared to their lengths*. I've been on a few long bus trips (say 20 miles) and an hours trip which cost around £5 return. I know a lot of bus companies do all day passes for about £3.50 for example.

*begs the question why you don't just walk if it's only 5 minutes..

I'm in full time work and take home is 9k per year. With this I can afford to keep up my paragliding, kayaking and climbing/walking trips, two holidays a year (this year a week in Paris and two weeks in El Chorro Spain), run a car and have no debt other than my student loan! I'm not alone in this as so many people in my industry (sports coach) get paid similar wages and still afford to live very well.

I'm not quite sure how some people seem to earn so much more than this yet seem to have a low standard of living...

ok, maybe 400each (2 people) so £75 more. A weekly rider costs me £10

I'm guessing you don't pay to rent? or have a mortgage?

You manage to pay rent/council tax/leccy/water/gas and run a car/insurance/tax/petrol and clothe and feed yourself and two holidays a year on 9k?
I doth my cap to you sir.
