Vista to Windows 7!

Hey guys just got my hands on Windows 7 Home premium and im currently on Vista Home Premium 32bit, but am i right in thinking if i want Windows 7 64bit i am going to have to do a clean install and not just an upgrade?

Yep, that is right, unfortunately.

Cross-architecture in-place upgrades (for example, x86 to x64) are not supported.

I went from Vista 32 to 7 32 and that took over 3 hours, but it went awesomely well

Also my dad wants to upgrade from Vista 32bit to Windows 7 64bit, but im not sure if his PC is 64bit compattible! It's a E6600 OC @3.06GHZ and he brought the system (pre built) in May 2007 if that's any help?!

An E6600 is 64bit compatible.

I thought it was the motherboard that has to be 64bit not the CPU :confused:

I'm pretty sure that if the motherboard supports a 64 bit processor, and that processor is 64 bit compatible, then all should be fine and dandy. You can always check by following the instructions here.

Home now so about to install

Should i uninstall as many programmes as possible or just back up the few files i want to keep, pics etc then slam the CD in?

Just back up what you need. Then bung the disc in.

in bios, make sure that the top option in the boot priority is the cd/dvd drive. Then just boot up the PC with the windows 7 disk in the drive, and follow the instructions from there
