church, gays, and a blonde

Seems like a reasonable assumption to me, Only on the news tonight there is the story about women bishops being second class and that their are homo bishops and how much of an outrage this still is to some. A non religious person could easily assume it.

Infact the more i think about this the more it makes complete sense. A queer bloke isnt allowed in a mosque, im not sure how Jews react probably just as OTT,

Really? because when I read the Bible I didn't think it made anything absolutely clear :p

Should it not though, if you don't follow the instructions of 'god' your soul resides in 'hell' forever. god needs to update us with a patched version of 'his' rules for us to follow. Why not make a global statement tomorrow which would end inter-faith violence and unite humanity under 'him'

I don't think anybody would disagree that the old commandments could do with a re-chiseling. :p

They were 're-chiseled' 2000 years ago... Christ brought the new covenant (agreement) between God and men, so the punishments laid out in the old testament are no longer necessary. Also, most laws are not applicable to most people, but only the Jews. It is complicated, but you can not take the old testament on its own without taking into account the New Testament. Anyway, even though most Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin, it is no worse than other sins... We don't stop everyone who has ever got drunk from ever entering a Church again.

my brother has just been round and told us a super blonde story.

my bro is gay, he is going to his best friends wedding ( female ) and is the male of honour??
last night he was out with a load of work mates and was explaining that he is the male of honour etc etc.
one of his female friends who was sitting by him whispered in his ear " how come they are letting you in the church " my bro is like " what do you mean " and she says " being gay an all " at this point he realises that its going to be a classic blonde thought, " why does that matter " he asks, and she then told him that she thought gays were not allowed in churches or places of worship.

after 5 mins of uncontroled laughter he explainded that they were allowed in churches.

thought id share as it did make me chuckle

Just wandering who is more prejudiced, the blonde who was expressing a percieved religious feeling against gays or you and your brother against blondes, at least the blonde was coming from a fairly informed stance ...............

I may post a retort (which I've just worded in my head) tomorrow, but I just wanted to say that I thought that that's a very well written post.

TBH there's a reason peroxide blondes are generally a few IQ points short of the norm... Natural blondes on the other hand...

Shes not so stupid, i know chuches where you may not even be allowed in and churchmen who would disown him. The church hasn't changed it views, even though society has.

It varies from denomination to denomination and religion to religion what is or is not allowed but if in the UK same sex couples aren't marrying, they are having a civil partnership ceremony and I wasn't aware that many churches would allow them to do that within their walls. I'd be surprised if too many churches would exclude people just for being gay but that doesn't mean they have to invite them in for a civil partnership ceremony either although some churches are of course more liberal about such matters than others.

Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."1*
Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them"*
1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."*
Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."

I will speak for the thoughts of the Anglo Saxon male population here , to many pro homosexuals in this country and they are believe it or not I believe it is the females populations fault , we could go on for hours .

The church tolerates them and no more .

was just saying that it made me laugh, dont want to start a debate over sexuality and religion ! lol

You missed out Genesis 19, Timothy 1:9-10 and Jude 1:7 if you are going to use the bible to condem homosexuality. It would be interesting to know if you are aware of the context of the verses and the slant put on those particular passages by translators (one clue being the word homosexuals which is quite modern and so would not be in the original texts).

Speaking as an anglo saxon male (with a bit of celt and viking thrown in for good measure) I really have no idea what you are trying to say here. I think you are trying to say there are too many pro homosexuals in this country and it is all the fault of women. I really would love to see the "logic" behind that statement. :D

Depends on the church really. Some are more welcoming than others. Much like some even allow unmarried couples to attend! How progressive...

It's not progressive. The churches are abandoning their own teachings in favour of being politically correct.

That is not progress, that's selling out their own faith.

Right now these churches are full of divisions and in-fighting, because some want to keep to the things written in the Bible, and others want to discard anything that doesn't fit with our modern permissive society.

Too late I'm afraid, such threads only tend to go one way.

Religion doesn't have to be absolute and unchanging, you might choose to call that selling out but there's no reason why religion cannot or should not adapt. It's almost funny in some ways that if religion tries to adapt then it gets slated for it as selling out, if it doesn't then it's an anachronism - seems there's no way to win.

Being 'male of honour' is really just doing what all homosexuals seem to want to do - draw as much attention as possible to the fact that he/she is different. The bride should have realised that she is getting married in a church (that she no doubt has never stepped into before and never will again) and that having a male bridesmaid is likely to cause the minister and other members of that congregation to feel awkward. If she really wants a male bridesmaid she should have gone for a civil ceremony.
