Any m3 2008-2010 owners? Or anyone that can offer some further advice on another car?

Does this GF of yours have a slightly younger sister? ;)

Personally I don't understand why somebody who is looking to spend so much money on a High Performance car is going to get so caught up on running costs as you seem to be? It just seems odd.

At the end of the day, neither are going to be "cheap".

Hehe i've had many friends ask over the years, alas no only a younger brother.

Live by his rules regarding the car situation, he let's her pick the car she likes and she's up for choosing whatever I like that she can drive. So we're given the choice but live by his rulings. Strange one I admit. Can't complain though as I do thoroughly understand / appreciate what a lucky situation I am in.

Hell I can't even afford to buy my own car in my own right.

What does the girlfriend like then?

It sounds like that he is "buying it" for her rather than you. The absoultely last thing I'd want to do if I were in your position would to seem too "pushy", I could see the father/Girlfriend resenting it...

Let Him/Her choose. At the end of the day, you'll get to use an awesome car no matter what :).

Just because you can afford it, doesn't mean that you really want to be spending £7,000 a year (according to OP) running a GT-R.
People don't get rich by wasting money.

OP: Get a 997 if you if it's spacious enough. If not, get the M3.

Actually didn't even consider this car just read up some detail on it sounds pretty sweet.

Dont annoy the cash cow, im telling you, get what he wants.

He's already had one downsizing change of heart, if he has another you might end up in an Astra. :)

And buy it new so you can specify your own colours - like silver with a black interior and aluminium trim.

And auto!

I am STILL to drive a GT-R, I actually had a test drive lined up with St Helens and then we had lots of snow and we never hooked up and now I've lost interest so don't want to drive up there to waste peoples time. I've driven E92 M's, cracking car but it isn't as quick as the GT-R, but then not much is. You could try a GT3 if you want special but I suspect it would be wasted on you. M3 is the best all round sports saloon, always has been (I've had 2) and always will be I suspect and that is said as an RS4 driver. If running costs are a consideration keep the VW and appreciate that buying a fast and expensive car is simply 1 element of the equation.

Your coming off a lot better this time around, but your situation is utterly bizarre and I find my self quite hard pressed to offer advice without knowing more about the needs of the car.

Also I am really nosey.

The 'M Button' is just a shortcut to a set of suspension/gearbox/throttle settings that YOU (the driver) have programmed, and it could have been programmed any way, so saying "even with the M button pressed" is meaningless.

Takes me back to the olden days :D

To be fair I don't think the gtr and m3 are comparable the gtr is a car that is Ferrari fast and 4wd the m3 is hardcore rwd saloon
There's almost 2 seconds between them 0-60 wise
One is a 3.8 v6 twin Turbo
And the other is a 4.2 v8
The similarities are with price and price alone

Wish I could find a rich bird! (Knowing my luck, she would be fat, 45 and bad oral hygine - meh still would)

Pics of said bird?

Plus just get the M3, if thats what he likes. Who cares, if I was in the situation to get a free M3 because of my girlfriend I might even buy her flowers and run the bath for her. If she got lucky she might even get some.

I had a 2007 M3 (assume thats the same as you are asking about ;) )

but don't see any questions in your OP?

Tyres and servicing are still expensive on this car, servicing probably more so that 997 carrera. replacement Michelin tyres on the 19's are about £1200, which can be done in 6-8k if driven how it should be.

power button is by the gearstick and doesnt change the power output anyway, M button on the dash is programmable.

Cheers these where the types of answers I came looking for.
Had another recommendation with the c63 from an earlier response, so we will check that out in the flesh.

Its not beyond the average man - a friend of mines GF family is wealthy and when he passed out/qualified (or whatever its called) into the Marines, her dad bought him an R32 Golf.

Having said that, these threads do smell like "wish you were me" threads.
