and for the record, OriginalJonty, i would quite happily see hoodies banned in public too

You cannot possibly be serious about wanting such invasive policies passed into law? How about we ban pockets as bad people carry knives in them? Lets go the whole hog and issue everyone a skin tight orange boiler suit so they can hide nothing not even their deadly bear belly and man boobs?

too unimaginative? i don't understand this ..

That's where we're different. I wouldn't want to see them banned as I do not have the right to tell people what they can and can't wear.

Whether the Muslim women are forced are not is irrelevant as to the reason why muslim women can not show their skin.

What is wrong with showing skin, the UK had a similar tradition 100s of years ago but that has slowly changed over time. I think muslim women look fat and ugly in their stupid veils. Once i saw this ninja muslim with realy nice eyes, so i said to her, it is shame you are brainwashed because i bet you are beautiful under that ninja outfit.

It is totally relevant whether a woman is forced or not. As they are not forced they should be free to wear the veil. Why are they brainwashed? Having faith or belief in something does not equal brainwashing.

And way to insult someone by calling something important to them a "ninja outfit."

Why don't you lock yourself in a room that way i won't be able to see your ass through your robe. I am going to say that from now on when i see a ninja muslim. Say to her and her muslim man beater, that your wife looks so hot in that ninja outfit, i bet she has a great ass.

You acknowledge that the UK had a similar tradition of women covering up, yet you cannot understand or allow the Muslim culture to have this tradition still? The Welsh have a tradition of Male Voice Quiors and Brass bands should this also be banned as they have fallen out of fashion in London?

Your arguments make little or no sense, you can not label all Muslim men wife beaters and were you to use any of the language in your post to a Muslim woman in a veil I would hope you got battered.

Ha! Brilliant :D
Idiot.

I've seen people go into stores wearing helmets, items that cover their mouths, balaclavas and not once have I thought these people are about to commit a crime.

Why not ban all these as well as the Muslim veil within a public space? It's either all or nothing otherwise this is discrimination against Muslims.

It is given practise that people need to remove headwware when buying things from shops, petrol stations, or entering banks.

It should be no different.

Why don't you put your wife in some hot pants and take her for a holiday to some where hot, i bet her legs could do with some sun. It is utterly ridiculous to see muslim women covering their bodies when everyone else is in bikinis and swimming trunk. To be honest i think it is evil and if you are also too brainwashed to realize how bloody stupid you are then it is not surprising that you are muslim.

You just asked "But why would you want to?".

As I said, just because you can't think of a reason, doesn't mean there isn't a good one.

There's no law banning those wearing a helmet, balaclava etc. in a public space but there is a law against a Muslim wearing a veil.

That is discrimination.

You want to oppress people's liberties in order to prevent this country 'going downhill'.

Are *you* for real?

yes me my mother and father too, as well as the majority of this forum and most likely the public too. We all must be Nazis. I didnt say Veils were bringing this country downhill i said political correctness. i.e. you.

it will never be passed as a law,you can still see their face. i personally have a problem communicating with some one face to face if i cannot see there face.

there may not be a law against covering ones face 24/7 but why would you want to do it? imagine if your missus or your best friend decided to do it? bye bye communication and bond.

Christ on a bike, do you even read what you post? Are you suggesting we ban burkas to promote a more loving and compassionate environment in Muslim households where, as I understand it, the burka isn't worn? Perhaps you'd have a word if your wife or mate started wearing a balaclava, but where the hell did you get the idea it's fine for you to tell me whether I should wear a balaclava or not? Clearly the Muslims themselves seem to take no ill from wearing any of their traditional gear, so why the hell do you feel like you should be swooping in to save their poor, hollow, ignorance-steeped lives?

For the record, I'm all for restrictions for security purposes - ID photos, petrol stations, bars, anywhere where headwear is banned on the premises. I don't like that some places feel uncomfortable about enforcing the rules when it comes to the possibility of offending someone. However, banning the burka altogether is ridiculous - there's absolutely no good reason for it, despite what fatuous dribble you read in the Daily Mail. I hate to wade into a swamp and start shouting at the ground for being wet, but people like groen & cm make my flesh creep. I'd just as soon leave it well alone, but every now and again brain-dead fearmongers and parrot bigots need a dash of cold reality to stop them forming rallies and marching against the setting of the sun.

It's not a 'Given practise' - it's a requirement by some shops that you show your face when making purchases. They're free to require this because you're on their property. Not all shops allow this. I keep my motorbike helmet on when paying for petrol, and have never had a problem.

Making a law to blanket ban it is a different thing to shopkeepers asking their customers to comply with their rules.

I think the similarity he's making is that victorian england was about women covering everything up. Islamic law/religion hasn't moved on, whereas england has.

Want to buy a sense of humour? :)

If you're protective of culture... why is my personal belief any different from culture? I express my individuality by laughing at something that I found funny... Where is the disrespect in calling something very similar to a ninja suit and ninja suit? :(

Wtf are you talking about? There's been a public referendum already?

there is a good reason, i can't see their face.

That's not a good enough reason to pass a law banning it.

There's nothing wrong with you holding a personal opinion not liking it. I'll absolutely respect the fact that you don't like the fact that some people wear veils. However, that falls ridiculously short of the mark for justifying a law banning it.

You can't compare a motor bike helmet with a muslim ninja suit. I mean come on.

How about we redesigned the ninja suit, we can ask prada or one of the designers to come up something a bit more 2010

If you want to thrown in Morris Dancing and bagpipes anywhere outside of a ceilidh then I'm sold on the idea... ;)

Have you ever stopped to consider that perhaps the wearing of some garments is for practical reasons? The loose flowing robes that are often found in Middle Eastern countries are almost certainly cooler for the wearer than shorts and a t-shirt for instance.
