Went into local VW dealership to look at 2nd hand golfs.
They had one for 12k well below spec of something you could get on autotrader but there you go.
Monthly payments were more than I thought so asked about leasing.

Then we got talking about the sciroccos which I love but put out of my head a while ago due to perceived financial impossibility.

BUT with the 1.4 TSI 122ps model I pay a bit more than the golf but have a BRAND new rocco:D

meh so it's not a two litre OR the 160ps 1.4 version but compared to my three cylinder, 1.2 06 polo I drive now? it's gonna haul.

more good news, 45 (ish) mpg on the combined cycle, basically 500 miles on a tank should be possible thereabouts.

Opted for 18'' interlago alloys, dynaudio speaker upgrade, sensor parking (hard car to reverse imo) and of course, VIPER GREEN metallic paint:D

what you all think?
Please don't be snobbish about my engine, its all I could afford and I can't wait to drive a damn nice car around that is fun and frugal:)

got it on three yr PCP with GAP insurance, it's still gonna hurt me, but will be worth it:cool:

Not so sure i would want to pay £12k for a car with that engine. I personally would have bought a car a few years old and got a better engine and probably a better spec but for the same money. The roccos do look pretty good but i am forever haunted by that Top Gear episode. Yes yes i know Top Gear should be taken with a pinch of salt but thats all i know about them. :p

But if you're happy, then all is good. Enjoy. :)

You got a brand new scirocco who cares about the engine :D 1.4 TSI is fairly decent for the car size for normal driving anyhow.

That topgear feature was awful, i got really excited when I heard they were going to have one on the show and they just drove the diesel and made rubbish adverts for it!

I know I can get car 'x' with an insane engine (and insurance) that car buffs would appreciate.
But what I appreciate is the timing of things, i've finished a bloody hard course for 6 yrs and have ordered my first brand new car that I will be paying for. It's exactly what I want and nothing else really tempted me. It's what kept me going during the darker hours!
I've only ever driven VW's and love them, solid cars.
So yes, I am happy

Nice one, viper green is an interesting colour :)
I'll just await the obligatory Motors posts to slam you for buying brand new on a PCP with GAP insurance.

What is "worth it" about a green 1.4L Scirocco with 18" wheels? It'll be boring to drive immediately and the 'zomg new car' feeling will wear off once you've run out of friends / family to introduce the car to.

£12k could have bought a very nice car. But it sounds like you didn't have the £12k to spend in the first place!

PS: I'm just saying what most other people are thinking ;) :)

Wow mate nice car, as long as u are happy then that is all that matters!

Ok, fake praise out of the way.

Seriously, what are you thinking? You've judged the ideal deal on one thing and one thing along - monthly payments.

It is the oldest trick in the book. You pop in to look at a used car and the salesman says 'What about a new one, It's only a little but more per month' and thats it, all your logic and reason goes out the window because he said 'new' and 'only a bit more per month'

A lease is a long term hire car - this will never be your car because it belongs to Volkswagen Financial Services. It is no more your new car than the Ford Mustang I've booked from Hertz for 2 weeks is my new car. Your hire is just longer than mine.

The important thing about this is to think about what happens at the end of the lease. You've paid £x a month, every month for your car. Now, 3 years later, what happens?

VW take it away and you are left with nothing. Nothing at all, no car and no huge pile of money you've just paid to hire it for the last 3 years. Back to square one. Still think its a good deal?

Ok sure, you've got a 'GFV' - a 'guaranteed future value'. But if you want to keep the car you need to find this money and pay it, you must buy the car from them (properly this time) just as you would a car from anyone else. And remember the lower (and more tempting) the GFV is, the more it costs per month...

I can tell you've been well and truely hooked by the salesman because you've even bought GAP insurance from the dealer as well, another massive NO NO NO. Why would you do that? If you want GAP insurance you can buy the SAME product in 45 seconds over the internet for 4 TIMES LESS MONEY than the dealer has stiffed you for it.

Salesmen push GAP for one reason and one reason alone - they have a huge margin on it and it makes them LOADS of comission.

You've basically fallen for every trick in the salesmans book, and as a result you are now tied to renting a bottom of the range, 120bhp 'sports' hatchback with enormous wheels for 3 years.

Hmm, enormous wheels. Do you have to pay for tyres? That'll suck putting a £500 set of tyres on it a few months before VW claim it back

Please don't be snobbish about my engine, its all I could afford

You don't get to use the term 'all I can afford' in a thread where as much money as this has been wasted :p

Interesting looking cars, I like their road presence.

Of course, the finance/pcp/whatever aspect is something you really need to think hard about, you are effectively stuck with the car with a reasonable monthly outlay for 3 years, and then nothing to show.. If you are prepared to spend that kind of money each month, looking at a 3 year bank loan and going second hand has the advantage you can change the car at any time, and after 3 years, it's 100% yours..

However, cars are a monumentally depreciating asset, so what ever way you finance car, you are throwing it down the drain from day 1*

I do like your options though, I basically opted for similar when I got the Zafira, larger alloys/upgraded audio (wish they had done dynaudio!) etc..

* OK, in some rare circumstances, some cars can appreciate. ;)

Fox, is that reply saved in your CTRL+C, if not then it should be, then the next thread like this comes along you can just CTRL+V it out with a few alterations.

Love the look of the car but you have been well and truly bummed by a salesman. I cannot believe how easy it is for someone like yourself to spend soo much money in a heartbeat without even thinking about it properly.

+1 to the salesman and well done to him, I'm sure he will enjoy the fruits of this sale.

Why would you want GAP insurance on a car that's not yours???? surely you have to have it fully comp? and if you write it off you let VW and the insurance company agree the value out and you walk away, allbeit you'll have to settle the mileage up or down

Wow, I love the pure indignant outrage here when someone makes a decision for themselves that doesn't actually affect anyone else :D

I'm liking the car anyway, would you be able to remap in the future tho?

Does seem you've possibly been buggered by the saleman tho...but if you can afford it and are actually happy with the car (yes, i know that's a cliche line, but can be true) then good O'.

I'm not entirely against PCP, although I probably wouldn't do it myself.

It makes more expensive cars accessible, and yes, after three years the car doesn't belong to you, but you always have the option of paying that balloon payment at the end if you wish to keep it, yes its more money, but thats only money that would have been piled on top of your monthly payments if you'd instead bought it on HP (with interest!). I don't know the exact difference in what you'd pay in total in each situation, but I very much doubt it is vast sums.

Poor show on the dealer supplied gap insurance though.

As for comments about the engine size, I see nothing wrong with it - some people just want a nice looking car and don't want/need to go fast. This is something that very few people on this forum can grasp.
