There are lots of muslims in NYC.

Pretty much says it all. Personally, I can't think of any better structure to go on the site, especially since the proposed "inter-faith community center and mosque" sounds like a mosque with a dedicated goal of spreading information and understanding. These people need to remember that it wasn't Muslims who destroyed the WTC, it was actual, real-life terrorists - hate-mongering fanatics launching an attack against a culture with the express view of cowing and wounding a society which they violently oppose. As mentioned, thousands of people died on that day, and they weren't all white Christians. Ignorance of where to draw the line is why such racial and religious tension is still so prevalent among the panicky masses, and comments like the one quoted hammer home just how blurred people's understanding really is.

so yes they are traing camps, you would never find anything similar in a church/cathedral/etc

I think New Yorkers themselves are much more liberal and can actually apply some logic. Mayor Bloomberg who is very loved in NY wouldn't be green-lighting this if he felt there would be a backlash by New York residents. The so called outrage is mainly in other parts of the country.

The mosques police end up raiding are doing something illegal. Who would have thunk that. I think you have a slight selection bias issue in your sample.


Finally to everyone! ITS NOT AT GROUND ZERO. Its near ground zero which you could argue to be the whole of lower manhattan.

the problem is that these attacks were held in the name of Allah and having a Mosque there is like defecating on the tombs and shows contempt for those who died. thought it was pretty evident.

Awful idea in my opinion. For once I can actually understand Americans getting angry, I would find this offensive. I visited the site when I was last in America and think it should be left pretty much how it is.

This is the sort of thing I would expect to happen in the UK though.

I don't think leaving it as it is would be the best option. building something to replace it with a monument/memorial of some sort near the bottom.

It is obviously not the case.

So what if recently terrorism happens to be coming from a fanatic bunch of muslims at this moment in time, what about the stuff in Ireland? in a few years time it might be the Buddhists or an extreme form of hinduism.

It is totally out of order to persecute a religious group because there are some other nutters that share some similar beliefs but apart from that are totally crazy. It's just a name.

Sounds quite uniformed really. The mosque is not being built on ground zero, it is being built near it. Christians, muslims and people of various faiths died that day. Sure a mosque isn't the best course but an interfaith community would be.

Al Qaeda are also not representative of all of Islam.

Yeah but religion was abused here, if it indeed commanded all Muslims out there to go on an all out Jihad war with the Western world, I doubt we'd still be here.

So get rid of China, India, Israel, Japan, Pakistan, Australia, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Singapore, Hong Kong etc.
