Ground Zero Mosque

Pretty much says it all. Personally, I can't think of any better structure to go on the site, especially since the proposed "inter-faith community center and mosque" sounds like a mosque with a dedicated goal of spreading information and understanding. These people need to remember that it wasn't Muslims who destroyed the WTC, it was actual, real-life terrorists - hate-mongering fanatics launching an attack against a culture with the express view of cowing and wounding a society which they violently oppose. As mentioned, thousands of people died on that day, and they weren't all white Christians. Ignorance of where to draw the line is why such racial and religious tension is still so prevalent among the panicky masses, and comments like the one quoted hammer home just how blurred people's understanding really is.

This.

Sadly, your post will fall on many deaf ears.

Bloody typical.

If you don't agree with my opinions, then *sigh* you are just one of those people.....

Thats your damn attitude and to be quite honest I disagree entirely.

It WAS muslims that blew it up. Dosen't mean tarnishing all muslims with the same brush  (I'm sure the majority, well there are over 1,000,000,000 of them), but it sure paints the religion in a bad light...

Building a mosque is just offensive.

Bloody +1

"It would be a terrible mistake to destroy a 154-year-old building in order to build a monument to terrorism," one woman said.
What a completely brain-dead moron she is.

but by saying "it was muslims" its no different from saying "it was humans"

bloody humans"

Not really. I'm sorry but the idealogy of Islam is utterly incomprehensible to that of our civilisation.

Am I saying its better? No, I'm saying its different and is at complete ends to what we celebrate and embrace.

Thus building a momument/mosque in the locality of an atrocity caused in the name of this foreign influence is just a recipe for disaster.

In your opinion.
You sound like the "brain-dead moron" to me.
Please explain why you think she is a "brain-dead moron"?
Would you countenance a Libyan embassy in Lockerbie? If not, why not?

You think a mosque is a monument to terrorism? Seriously?

In the same vein, building a church near a school is a recipe for disaster, because *some* priests have abused children. Not all priests are pedophiles, not all Muslims are terrorists.

Hmm, interesting. I'm on the fence for this one.
It does seem like setting up camp in a lions den, but on the other hand it might bring greater unity and clarity.
But the beligerence of some individuals on both sides (muslim and others) could ruin any chance for promoting inter-faith relations.

You think ALL Libyans agree with Lockerbie?

What are you talking about? Obviously not, when did i ever say that they did?

Using your logic, some catholic IRA members once commited some terrorist acts, is every chapel also a monument to terrorism?

It is not the same though is it.

If there were Lybians living in Lockerbie then they can build whatever non radical religious building they like, just like Muslims in Manhattan should be allowed a mosque.

Putting the embassy there would obviously just be so random it is obvious that it is intended to cause offence.

Lots of New Yorkers are Muslim!

Should we also have no Catholic Churches near the Arndale in Manchester?

You guys know this isn't actually on the site (that land already has plans) they're just knocking down an old building somewhere near by and the media jumped on it as ground zero mosque, rather than "mosque build, vaguely near old twin towers site"

This is what they're doing with the actual ground zero site

Sssshhh...

By the way guys Google maps shows at least 8 mosques already in and around Manhattan and Harlem and that area.

there are probably 100s in NYC. there are many many muslims.

Not all Muslims are terrorists.

This is a non story.
