it's £235 now, £199.99 for me who in their right mind would buy a 5870 or 5850 over it unless the noise was an issue

Are you saying the gtx 470 is a better buy than the 5870?

The price difference between them is about £50 at the moment.

Im not trying to be smart here. Im in the market for a card, and had previously considered the Zotac 470, but was told it would run loud and hot, so ATI was the only option.

do you use headphones for gaming?

if your answer is yes or you would be fine with using headphones and use the price difference between the 470 and 5870 to buy some then get a 470

if your answer is no then I'd probably stick with the 5870

don't worry about heat, as long as it doesn't kill the card it's fine, plus the GPU doesn't get that high in games any way, 85C tops or 75C with a well ventilated case (I keep the side off mine because the noise doesn't bother me and I get 820MHz 1050mv 77C tops with my 470)

Nvidia drivers are much better. The picture quality on Nvidia cards are much brighter and clearer as well which I've noticed.

I have always thought that ATI cards colour and picture looks clearer than Nvidias.
But AA looks better on Nvidia.
