GTA 4 worth it?

Got it in the Steam sale, was a bit worried about all the performance issues people had reported - but runs absolutely fine for me (1900x1200) - Ati 5850, Phenom x4 565

As far as gameplay goes, I had already played a fair bit of it at release on the 360 but never bothered online. Must say I'm loving the single player on the pc and multiplayer is pretty fun as well.

i found that the main texture setting (top one) is buggy when setting to high so i have it medium with all others high (not V.High)... keep shadows down to high at least :)

played it on brothers xbox, amazing game, was absoluty stunned. having completed it twice now, I still think gta san andreas was more fun, but graphically gta 4 was the dogs ********!

I think GTA 4 looks better at night then in the day, at least on PC, the darkness masks the jaggys ;)

It runs pretty well on my Q6600 + GTX260 @ 1920x1080, much better with the latest patches too.

It's a horrible game on the 360 / PS3, draw distance is about 20 cm!

I recently finished the game and have started the expansion packs. I had bought them in the rockstar collection offer for £29.99. GTA4 alone was worth that money. A brilliant game which has gone back to the style of GTA3 and VC. San Andreas was a truly shockingly bad game.

I ran the game on my system below which was overclocked a lot. Performance wasn't amazing but for a game like GTA 30fps minimum is enough.

No probs with performance here, i7 @ 3.2GHz (for summer, normally 3.8GHz) & an xfx Radeon 4890 with everything maxxed at 1920 x 1080. Can't understand why some people have such trouble with it. Great game too, but I never got used to the driving - the controls are horrendous. I hear it sprayed about a bit that it's supposed to be 'realistic', but I'd pay a good deal of cash for a cr that handles like a doped-up marshmallow in real life, just for the fun of it. No car slides that far, ever.

I liked GTA 4 more than previous ones, theres something strangely entertaining about mowing people down at high speed and watching the ragdoll physics work :)

I've never played around with graphics mods, I'm sure someone else will make a recommendation on that.

Only thing I've modded are cars.

This is a great site, has loads of excellent real cars: http://www.gta4-mods.com/
Not even used any mods myself on the website it says to watch this video to learn how to install the mods though all the comments about 'my game doesn't load any more is putting me off!'

I like the game, always fun to just run around - i never follow the story though but yer :)
Just sit back on the bed with the xbox controller and game away

GTA 4 is one of the best games I've ever played. So good, I've now clocked it about five times and now playing it through for the sixth time.

Runs absolutely perfectly for me at max settings. But a lot of people still do have complaints about performance.

It should also run great on your rig. I have a Q6600 @ 3.55Ghz and an ATI 4890.

I agree fully with this but I run in medium settings on [email protected], 5770 and slows down to 25fps sometimes. Maybe I just prefer 50-60fps for playability

Anyway, its a great game. Buy it on steam or normal then apply the latest update and game for windows live. Its fantastic multiplayer, cant beat jumping into a hummer with 3 other people and doing drive bys on other people online

i stopped playing it because of the driving - its awful, probably the worst and most unrealistic driving model i have ever played in a game this century.

Always liked the driving on gta games including this one.. though i'm generally not a fan of the way racing games drive

It is a great game, the amount of detail in the world is staggering. Each building is completely unique with its own textures. I've played it 60 hours and am still finding things.

Not played many games then have you.

on the contrary, i've played several thousand over the last 30 years or more.
i don't really understand why people like the driving in gta4, it just isn't enjoyable and previous gta's were much better in this respect.

Well, because it is enjoyable?

Fantasic game - except for the fact that every patch bar the first seems to make it more resource hungry, GFWL is still full of holes (currently keeps trying to download latest patch and promptly fail to install it even though game is patched correctly anyway) and if you run dual ati video cards then the micro stutter makes the game unplayable.

Anyway you will invest hours playing this as it is so damn fun
