I have a phenom ii x4 3.4ghz with an asus crosshair iii mobo

I want to upgrade my graphics an ati 5770.

I unsure about 3 things,

1. will the performance of an nivdia single card by effected by an amd system.

2. when do you thing gtx 480 will have better coolers or are they alright if not overclocked.

3. is the gtx 480 worth it now over the 5870 as u can get them under £400 now

1. No

2.
Hopefully soon as i would like to buy one:)

3. Thats a matter of opinion the GTX 480 is a little faster than the 5870 in most games but the 5870 is a really good card still.
The 480 will give you the option of Phyx,Cuda and 3D if you want these features.

Are they better than the 5870?

On the plus side:

They are faster (though only ~10-15% overall), they have much better scalability when adding a second card, and (in most cases) offer slightly more consistent framerates. They also have physx capabilities. They are vastly superior at tessilation, but realistically it's going to be a long time before this can be exploited in games.

On the down side:

They draw a lot more power than the 5870, and they give out more noise when the fans spin up. Plus, in percentage terms they are not as overclockable.

Overall it's debatable. I would probably be tempted to go for the 480, but there is no straightforward answer.

It's a Scythe Ninja Rev B.

Easily, I'm running mine along with a GTX 260 for PhysX (overkill I know :D) and an i5 750 @ 4GHz on a Seasonic M12 700 watt PSU with no issues whatsoever.

Underkill for Mafia 2...

Mafia 2 Video Cards and resolution: APEX High settings
Minimum: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 (or better) and a dedicated NVIDIA 9800GTX (or better) for PhysX
Recommended: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 for Graphics and a dedicated NVIDIA GTX 285 (or better) for PhysX NVIDIA GPU driver: 197.13 or later.
NVIDIA PhysX driver: 10.04.02_9.10.0522. Included and automatically installed with the game.
