When i first installed windows 7, including updates it booted in 30 seconds about 20 of which was bios. But now that i have installed SQL on it and used about 40% of the drive in total it now takes 40 seconds to boot!

I used crystal disk; on the "supported features" line it has there SMART, 48Bit LBA, NCQ and TRIM in black; APM and AMM are greyed out. I have version 1.1 of the firmware. Do i need to enable TRIM within windows?

I have not enabled AHCI in bios yet on my ASUS P5Q pro turbo; is it on automatically? If i do this will it affect the data on my drives / would i have to reformat or anything? I tired to enable ACHI in the main option but i got a blue screen when i booted into windows; so i enabled the ACHI controller only in the advanced tab is this right? Do i need to do anything else?

Thanks

I did the registry thing; then i enabled AHCI in the "main" tab and then enabled AHCI in the "controller mode" option under the "advanced" tab; is this correct

After i did and restarts etc I power off and the boot time has not improved; also i get a "safely remove hardware" for all my internal hard drives. The latter may be because i installed some software thinking it was necessary. please advise

Can someone please offer some advice
I need to get the speed back to how it was after first install
Ensure the bios/AHCI is correct
And remove that "safely remove hardware icon" for my internal hard drives

The ocz forums have a wealth of detail on setting up your drive, enabling trim, checking trim is enabled and generally maintaining your drive. I have found it a wealth of info for looking after mine. :)

remember the performance will drop off after a time and again the above mentioned forum will give you the info that you need to bring it back to tip top condition :)

Don't forget the start up time also depends on the amount of apps that you have starting!

My older quad core starts just as fast as this i7 machine with it's SSD because it's a fresher OS install and not as many apps running. ie no G15 keyboard to initialise etc.

They both run Win7 and if I push the power on button at the same time the SSD booting rig will be at desktop only a few seconds before the older Velociraptor rig BUT the SSD rig has opened and started a lot more apps and hardware !!

I am considering returning the SSD since i am still getting issues. I was wondering if i do and use my raptor; with two samsung drives should i still use AHCI or not? Is this mode only supposed to be used with SSD for OS; what are the benafits and drawbacks?
