I thought OcUK only really stocked good quality products.........

they have been on sale for how long now? a few days, and they already have a failure rate?

What failure rate? We tested these for quite a period prior to launch on the site. We are not a line lister like other large etailers. We do test most of the component products - this testing phase is all part of the decision that the company makes to decide if we should sell them / use them in systems.

For how long were they tested? And for example was the 750W unit tested on a system that only cosumes 200w?

wow so much bile about ocuk stocking a cheaper component. Get over it, if you don't like it don't buy it.

I think this has more to do with people forgetting that ocuk is a commercial business and not solely for enthusiasts.

If the business can make more margin by flogging these psu, all is good, it means they will have more cash flow to stock more and better products for us enthusiasts.

hmm, interesting. Things like this will generate more trade through OcUK, I build several PC's for friends and family each year, most are just the family PC so I shop elsewhere for parts as its always cheaper.

But now, looks like I can price those systems up here aswell.

but surely having the word "overclockers" in the company title suggest products for the enthusiasts.

or is this the start of a new company called stockclockersUK

I don't think its so much the price as the way they are marketed and that higher wattages can be misleading, and could catch people out.
More details on what they are not suitable for and why, or output figures etc would probably help.
Considering building a low power torrent pc and these would be good for that, especially if OcUk are bringing in a load of reliable, low cost parts in the near future.

Renaming the range would be a start, professional to budget, office, no frills etc

Would i be better off with a 400w corsair or one of these OcUK ones?

Easily the Corsair, around the same price and can do 400W continuously at 40c.

And you know the OcUK swift, say the 650W version which is cheaper than the corsair, can't?
You don't know it's easily the Corsair. You suspect and think it is, but without testing the WinPower PSU's you can't actually know.

We have been testing these units for around 6months on i5's/i3's and we have had a zero failure rate.

You wouldn't use it with a high end GFX card but for an web browser/home office PC they are ideal with the reliability.

To be fair though it doesnt say under product description "dont use with high end gfx card" and unfortunatly a gaming pc falls under the "home pc" category.

So when someone who doesnt have a clue about power rail specs buys it to power their 295gtx, you have problems.

I could have sworn you were Perma'd.

There seems to have been something of an armistice over the last couple of days (not sure if its related to the gibbo thing) - I've noticed a few people who were formerly perma'd given a last chance.

I am certain. The Swift wouldn't be so cheap if it even came close to the CX400 quality wise. Dont be so silly.

If you see a rubbish generic PSU at your local store, do you HAVE to extensively test it to know it cant stack up to higher end ones? No you don't.

I'm not saying it is close to the Corsair quality wise. I'm just saying that the 650W or 750W Swift MAY deliver the same as the 400W Corsair and so would provide a cheaper alternative.
I'm not saying anything definitive as I haven't had experience with either PSU.
And no, you don't need extensive testing. But it is not possible that a higher rater generic PSU can be on a par with a lower rated branded one?
