Modern Warfare 2 is going P2P.

Look at the rise of polished, small dev team, games on steam, etc. I think they will be hard pressed to turn games like diablo 3 and the COD franchise into pay to play with a few quality alternatives that remain in the current paid for model.

Sure theres no dedicated servers, problems with cheating and the odd thing that needs nerfing still (g18 akimbo) but the actually combat, maps, etc. is very well implemented and the gameplay is just a blast from start to finish.

And for the moaners theres now game modes with the latest update that disables all the fun stuff and leaves you with just bare metal.

bobbys made no secrets about him wishing there was a more pc -like system in peoples living rooms (coming from the same man who basically shunned pc gaming lol), as at the end of the day its more open and he can make his buck quicker.

hes pretty delliusional though, what with him thinking people just are on live bc of mw2 as if its the only game that exists.

im sure the muppets who paid for the map packs will lap this up and he will get his money though.

theres really not much money in mw2 for this, he needs to be looking at starcraft 2 for that, but im sure blizzard have told him where to go!

yeah exactly 8 million packs sold  He probably thinks he can sell air

If the only way to get Oxygen was from them selling it, I would certainly pay. :D

I agree though, that the people who paid £10 for the "new" maps will probably beg their parents for £x/month to go towards fuelling their addiction.

They have yet to make the game playable though. Closer to a year after the release and the FOV is still so broken normal human beings can't play the game.

I think so. What i wonder is, when we have to pay £10 a month to play online, do they consider dropping the game pice down? Considering they wanted to charge £50 / £60 (i think, was awhile ago) for mw2 on release for consoles to pay a sub on top of that is mental.

Theres a quote somewhere about how Kodick wants to turn every purchase into a $500 purchase or something. The thing is there isn't much new to offer from the new games these days so i find it funny that he even believes he could turn online gaming into a subscription thing. If i had to start paying for hours or whatever to play online, i'd stop buying new games and stick to old ones.

That's it imo.

Cod/mw etc has run its course, it will continue to popular like fifa etc but I don't think the same numbers would continue down the franchise if it meant setting up a direct debit or buying a years sub etc.

These kind of things were always going to be tried in order to maximise profits. Its disgraceful of Booby Kotick but then nothing surprises me when money is put in front of those greedy eyes.

All we can hope for is that the game this is trialled with is less than A standard and people revolt and refuse to pay. This way activision get there fingers burnt, they got there fingers burnt with that guitar game so its not unfeasible this might go wrong.

Sod burnt, Activision won't quit trying to cut corners and scrounge every last penny they can until the day they go under. Its just a sad fact that Kodick appears to see wallets not people.

im glad they are trying this tbh

the sooner CoD loses its grip on the fps genre the better

this will only make it happen faster

He'll never win out. Even IWNet got owned with AlterIW. Sad day when hackers have to do the work the company should have.

Very misleading thread title, Pachter is in fact an industry 'analyst' who's been mispredicting a wide variety of things since the early PS2 days.

He has nothing to do with Activision, so I have no idea why people are acting like Kotick himself has risen from the depths of Hell and decreed that there will thusly be a subscription fee.

I'm actually quite shocked at how easily people are being misled and actually thinking it's going to happen, no wonder there are so many kneejerk posts and falsehoods flying about in general.
