**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

I have not been involved with the beta of SC2 at all unforunatley but I am going to dedicate some serious time to this game when it comes out. Can anyone point me in the right direction for some good strategy info? I watch a lot of replays/shout casts on youtube and day9's site but would like to get something I can print off and read. Cheers

Hello Ollie.

I'd recommend teamliquid.net . They've got a nice community and there's a lot of interesting strategies around the forums.

Is the collectors edition really worth the extra £25?

Short and long answer, no.

But Starcraft is my favourite game of all time and I got 12 years of enjoyment from it. So my rationality of it's worth is irrelevant I'm going to buy it because I want the game to make a bucket of money and I want the little trinkets.

Came across this youtube clip just now too, and if you were wondering if you should buy this game, this is the best answer why you should.

It shows that even if you're not that good, you can humiliate (supposedly) better players :)

Hmmm I would say tl.net is the best bet but really the best thing to do is to learn the 'normal' base builds and go from there.

Don't see like a nony build with pheonixes and go 'oh cool I'll do that'.

You will get stomped :) But a safe build, totally standard build, as protoss, is like the 2 gate robo - which pretty much destroys anyone up until mid-gold level.

But yeah, there's no substitute for just playing as many games as possible, supplementing that with reading the strategy forum on tl.net and trying things out yourself.

£35 for the Standard Boxed copy is abit extortionate. Stinks of Activision's money men all over it to be honest.

Having said that i'll still probably buy it so i guess Activision Win

Thanks very much mate. Will check it out :)

Cant wait to get some practice in the real game!

I've just seen that game on Oxford Street have a launch event kicking off at 11pm on the 26th.

I'm going to go to that and pick up my collectors edition. There's also going to be a blizzard bod there as well.

Any idea what sort of stuff is going to be going on? I think that game store is quite small isn't it.

May stay late at work and take a walk over!

I don't think it will be a massive event ala halo, or cod et al.

It will be a fairly hardcore turnout which I think will be pretty cool. They will have one of the game designers there from Blizzard which will be great, I'd love to just ask some questions about the process they went through to get the game out the door, and get my copy signed :)

Then I will high tail it home before the northern line shuts to get online :D

lol i would pay £60 for this game no hesitation been waiting ten years this game will last me another ten no question

I actually got my first tastes of Starcraft through the SC2 beta, as I was into Warcraft 2 and Red Alert (and eventually Red Alert 2) when the original Starcraft came out, and then I ended up playing mostly shooters until Company of Heroes came out. So, in the beta, I pretty much went from "ugh, these other guys have played thousands of matches, how am I supposed to compete with them" to "hey, I'm starting to understand how each race plays" to "bwahaha, I just pwned that noob!". I quite enjoyed the beta, and this week of waiting will be quite annoying. But at least I'll probably get years of enjoyment out of the game, so the wait is worth it. A week isn't exactly a long time compared to the 12 years others have waited...

Why couldnt Blizzard Entertainment publish it instead of having Activision rake piles of money in?

Whats difficult about sending you an email with a code so you can download the retail client from battle.net?

They probably needed the funding for all the advertising and such it's getting. I can't imagine it was cheap to get an SC2 advert shown at the NBA finals in america.
