I never watched this in cinema, despite always wanting to. I popped into HMV and it was on a 2 for £10 so I thought why not.

What a movie! I can see now why it was nominated and won soo many awards!

What are your thoughts on this movie?

im sure some of the people in the Music, Box Office, TV & Books forum might have an opinion.

Good movie, but horrible acting from the two main **** actors, spoilt it a slightly. The bit where the boy is locked in the basement and bangs on the metal mesh door made me laugh.

I really enjoyed this film, and Clint can still have that menacing presence that he used to have.

Brilliant movie, absolutely terrible acting from the child leads I'll agree but it didn't really matter.

The film never appealed to me initially but the same as you, I bought it as part of an offer.

When I watched it, I was gob smacked, I really enjoyed it.

What awards?

Gran Torino was recognized by the American Film Institute as one of the Ten Best Films of 2008.[25] Clint Eastwood's performance has also garnered recognition. He won an award for Best Actor from the National Board of Review,[26] he was nominated for the Broadcast Film Critics Association (Critics' Choice Awards) and by the Chicago Film Critics Association Awards for Best Actor.[27][28] An original song from the film, "Gran Torino", was nominated for the Golden Globe Awards for Best Original Song. The music is by Clint Eastwood, Jamie Cullum, Kyle Eastwood, and Michael Stevens, with Cullum penning the lyrics.[29] The Art Directors Guild nominated Gran Torino in the contemporary film category.[30]

The film, however, was almost ignored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the 81st Academy Awards when it was not nominated for a single Oscar, which led to heated criticism from critics, who felt that the Academy had also deliberately snubbed The Dark Knight, Revolutionary Road and Changeling from the five major categories.[31][32]

In 2010, the film was named Best Foreign Film at the César Awards in France.[33]

And on topic - I thought it was a brilliant movie too :D

Brilliant film but this whole "bad neighborhood" image the americans show in films like this makes folk see a false sense of fear and passion... take a british master piece such as "harry brown". That film blew this out of the water. A little look into this shows that the folk reviewing films such as harry brown over in the US just cant believe that life can be like that..

I did enjoy Gran Torino I must say but Harry brown was filled with more passion and was more moving and reaping of sheer brilliance compared to this.

I saw it on blu-ray over Easter time, really enjoyed it. Clever ending too.... One film I really didn't fancy at the cinema though....

I watched this when it came on sky, excellent film about a real mouldy old git totally screwed up by his combat experiences in Korea, made me think about some of the miserable gits I know.
