Weapon development contract - moral objection?

not sure if id have a problem with it. probably not though. after all its not me firing the trigger.

as for offensive weapons well some stop wars and save lots more lifes than they kill.

we are already past the point of it being horrific so now its just a constant race to make sure one country doesnt get ahead of the rest in weapons technology. thats when millions could die
 
Wouldn't even cross my mind. Someone has to do these things, me objecting isn't going to stop it, so I may as well profit.
 
I'd have no problems with it. I'd work quite happily on biological weapons as well. As long as I didn't accidentally get infected that is.
 
Personally, I look at it like this. Its going to happen anyway, we will always want newer better ways of killing each other. If I can be part of a engineering peak which I think the likes of weapon/defense/aerospace etc. engineering really is, then I want in. If they throw loadsa dosh at me, all the better.
 
No moral objection here, at least not for conventional weapons. I'd love to get my hands on some juicy defence contracts!

Perhaps if it were a highly contageous bioweapon, or some new kind of weapon of mass destruction with the potential to wipe out all or most of the population of the planet, then I would be a little more edgy. But apart from that... It's just technological progress. I'm just designing a set of tools; it's not up to me how they are used.
 
I would do it, I could easily "flick the switch"... don't know if I could stab someone as it's too close and personal, but dropping bombs, missiles and arty... easy.
 
I would have no moral problem - the way I see it, if it is a case of us or them, might as well be us. If a single one of our soldiers dies, we didn't have good enough weapons. Case in point - in Iraq, because the US had massive air supremacy, the air force cut the wings off of their planes so they wouldn't be bombed. This saved lives. I want more like this.
 
Years ago at a graduate recruitment fair I remember a large international arms company giving away pens with bubble blowers in the top. Image is everything.....

No-one can answer that for you, i had an acquaintance who designed missile guidance systems who was happy in the job until the various wars kicked off and he resigned.
It really depends on your personal feelings, when you are there i doubt you will be thinking about what it will be used for but rather the job at hand.
When you get out of work if you can live with it, then you know you can do the job.

Personally i would say go for it, see what you feel like after a few months/years and decide from there as it is a very good opportunity (and one that doesn't come up often)
 
No morality issue here.

No different than designing a non-lethal product/application which someone goes and uses for harm.

I would take the job and the money.
