pet insurance (Cat)

I'm with Argos platnium insurance. It had 20% off online purchases last month and quidco of £20 per policy taken out.

Two policies for my two cats, one about £5.50 and the other about £6.50. They are only young but £12 a month for two cats on full platnium cover and £40 back for the first year was pretty decent!

just had a look on argos for my kittens (currently 9 weeks, will need cover from 13) and platinum was £13 each

Ask rotty what he has, his bengal had around 5k worth of tests and the insurance paid up with no problems.

I was using E&L for max but had nothing but trouble when claiming.

KaHn

was with More Than, used them for years and never had any problems at all

^Ten! How much does that set you back?

I really should sort out cover for mine. I have four though so can see it being pricey for me . One got stung on sunday by a wasp or a bee we assume and his foot and mouth were stupidly swollen and was being sick and had diarrhoea. £70 call out plus usual consultancy charge and then a couple of quid each for a few shots.

Well after doing quite a lot of re-search etc we decided to stay with PP (life) lucky doing so as the past 3 days my male cat (smudge) has had somethnig wrong with his left eye. Just took him to the vet this morning. He has a thorn stuck in his eye was quite big, lucky it didnt go in deep. He has an infection & and ulcer has to have eye drops 2x a day and go back for a checkup in a week. The vet bill was only £50 so wont be getting money back as its not £300+ like his injury before.

Funny, but isn't it cheaper just to pay the cost yourself if it's needed instead of 15 quid a month?

Depends. Like all insurance it's there to cover you for the large bills which you can't pay/meet.

I could say the same with my £400 per annum house cover which I have never claimed on in 20 years. It's a waste of money and I should just pay for damage as and when it crops up. Except if the house was totalled I couldn;t pay the the £280k cost to rebuild it.

Vet's bills can quickly spiral out of control though. In the last two years we have had the following:

One month old foal kicked in the face. Taken to Liverpool hospital, MRI scan, 6 hour face reconstruction surgery (face broken into 18 peices) and one week livery £2,500. WOuld have been more but we had our own transport and my gf got a 33% discount since it was where she trained and her old tutor did the operation.

Our two dogs have the odd vicious fight every now and then.

On 3 occasions and always at the weekend we have had to take one of them to the vets to get stitched up and £200 to £300 each time.

Also, when my other half was a vet in practice, she once treated a dog on Sunday which had been out walking with it's owners and had swallowed a fisherman's tackle (all the hooks and bait). The surgery cost was £500. One expensive walk.

And whatever anybody does, do not go with Equine and Livestock (E&L) or any of their many other pet insurance companies registered at the same address. My gf says they are the worst pet insurance company to deal with and for major (expensive) operations they have to give approval first otherwise they won't always pay out. Early one Sunday morning she needed approval for over £1000 of treatment to pay for a lifesaving operation but they didn't have any staff working who could give authority and she was told she would have to ring back on Monday. Problem for the owners then was their pet only had an hour or two max to live and couldn't afford the operation if the insurance decided on Monday not to pay.

You people are paying more on Cat health insurance than I do for medical insurance for myself! Surely these companies are just bleeding you dry as most of you animals will not go near a vet in the average year? That was certainly the case with my cats!

I think you will find that over the course of a cats/dogs life they are more likely to have picked up medical bills far in excess of a human would in the same time period.

My god this place is the biggest bunch of nancy boys.

Cat insurance.
Moral objections to working on defense contracts.
Lamenting the death of a squirrel.

I've seen knitting groups with more testosterone than this place.

Here's my advice, save up your £35/mo, go to Amsterdam and spend it on whores, then get a new cat for free from the newspaper.

Well wasn't that an excellent post.
I'm going to take a stab in the dark here - you're about 15 and can usually be found hanging around street corners with a Stanley Knife in your back pocket for "protection" and a bottle of White Ligtning at your feet.

There are quite a few cat owners on these forums.
When you take on a cat you take on a responsibility.
If your cat falls ill, or is hurt then it is your responsibility to make sure they are looked after.
You don't simply "kill your ill cat" and get a new one.

Maybe if you have something in your life to care for (other than you own palm) you would know exactly where we are coming from.

I tell you what.
You take the loves of your life upstairs, spend 5 minutes on your favourite "adult entertainment" site and then come back once you've chilled out a little.

It's a CAT. They aren't people they are CATS. There are thousands of them available for free everywhere.

An expensive rare breed you spent thousands of pounds on to show how sophisticated and rich you are, insurance is a good idea. Generic old sad sack house cat you got for free from your aunt's next door neighbor...

There's just something fundamentally unhinged about a grown person having that kind of emotional connection to a CAT. I can't be alone in thinking this, I'm sure if you went to 90% of places in the world and told someone you spend roughly $50 USD a month on cat insurance they would think you were a total nutcase.

What's next, gold fish insurance?

Oh how wrong you would be.
I'm sorry but you are doing nothing but showing your immaturity.
You ask anyone who owns a cat exactly how they feel about it.
I think I can safely say right now that over 90% of those people would be worried if their cat became ill or was hurt.
I can also quite safely say that the majority of people are sensible enough to get their cats insured.
Because it would not be an easy decision to make if you simply could not afford the treatment a pet might require.

As I said before.
When you've grown up enough and start having emotional attachments to things yourself then you'll realise.
