OcUK's plans for the future and new blood...

Welcome back!

Changes sound good.

All I want from forum moderating is a level of fairness and consitency. Bans for certain actions or inflicted on some and not others (or at least seem to be) and at the same time different mods have different levels of tolerance. Example is swearies, I have been banned for swearing even when fully starring out words yet others have put in a single star or nothing at all and escaped a ban. Consistency people! :p

All in all though this a great forum to be a part of so keep up all the good work guys and let us all continue to use and enjoy OcUK for now and the future :)

I'll second that lack of consistency.

Poster1 = average joe member
Poster2 = ex-moderator and "buddies" with current mods

Poster1 is trolling and gets called a troll. No action taken.
Poster2 is trolling and gets called a troll. The "offending" person has his post edited for what is now suddenly consisdered to be a "personal insult".

Well, since Dangerous said he'd kick the habit, it would probably be safe in the pron section. If, on the other hand, he relapsed, everyone who requested might regret ever even thinking about that idea. :p

Having seen moderation here from both sides, the team usually do a good but sometimes stressful and/or thankless job. Technical moderation and improved communications channels are certainly welcome, however, as they seem to have been consistent weaker points for quite some time.

As a less frequent visitor I haven't seen the reported inconsistency in moderating, but nonetheless I agree that favouritism should play no part in moderation (and that's with ex-moderator hat on).

I'll be surprised if there is another babe thread, what happened to the other one? Did the pictures get progressively naughtier?

To play devil's advocate; I have heard some of this before, unbiased reviews, overclocking team etc...What is different this time?

I think in all my time of OcUK no review has ever been biased, though the reviews I did were mainly heatsinks and trying to blow up graphics cards. :D

Anything done in the future will most likely be done by forum members, so not under companies payroll, but generall any advice given is off an honest oppinion but like everything oppinions can differ.

But its early days, a discussion for later on. :)

Trying isn't succeeding!

Agree. Some people seem unable to control themselves - either with incessant "hit it" (or today's equivalent) posts or not getting the point that "no nudity" means none, end of story. A shame for everyone else who does "get it".

Now there's an idea. Review: The environmentally insensitive guide to disposing of your old hardware. :D

Banning discriminating remarks would be a good start

That would be a great start. As well as regulating those members who think their self importance and ability to flex the rules increases with post count.

There isn't sufficient consistency today, and frankly, the community here should be the best advocate going for a potential customer. At the moment, it is one of the worst user experiences a new visitor could receive in most of the forums here. New users are slapped down, bullied and put in their place, often incorrectly. They're here for a reason, and that WILL affect their decision on where to purchase next.

It's pretty much the same with the random picture thread though in many ways. The amount of people who see person after person get banned and still can't remember to post pictures or not hotlink a motivational poster from a dodgy website astounds me.

Hi there

Well as you all know I start back as an official capacity for Overclockers UK this Friday (tomorrow).

A breif summary of my job role will be purchasing, e-commerce and well already growing what is a strong and huge brand name - OcUK!

So Mark and the team want to add more to the forum to further improve it and make it a more enjoyable place. Over the years mainly the past there are some who have the impression OcUK is strictly run, which in looking around its actually one of the best moderated forums on the web, especially considering its size. However OcUK are listening and over the coming weeks new ideas shall be implemented to make both posting on the OcUK forum and shopping with OcUK a more enjoyable experience.

To begin with there will be two new moderators joining the fold, but these shall be introduced over the next coming days/weeks. But they will be technically minded and have a very fair moderating style, thats not to say the current moderators are not fair as they are. :p
Their goals will be too add a lot more hardware/overclocking stuff to the forum and help with such things. Also I am a stealth moderator here and will be happy to assist.

The aim of overclockers in summary is basically the following:-
  • Restore the technical prowess the forum once had, its good now, but we are going to look at doing more reviews, overclocking, latest products and well posting interesting cool stuff.
  • To squash the impression some have that this forum is run by powercrazed moderators, its not but their is an impression out there it is. This is a fantastic forum to be a part off and its very well moderated but we do have some plans to make it even better and to improve communication between members and the moderating team to deal with issues to a more satisfactory liking for both parties.
  • These are not changes to what we currently do, Spie just wants to enhance the experience members have on the forum and make improvements where necessary to the policies in place to achieve this. :)

So basically you can expect improvements both on the forums and the shop side from OcUK in the coming future, the staff, moderators, myself and Spie are working very hard to make OcUK not only the best forum out there for all types of users but also the best place for deals, gaming hardware, latest hardware and so much more. The next 12 months are going to be very good, your gonna see lots of new ideas getting implemented by OcUK so stick around and those who maybe don't post here any more, well is it not time you returned.

Also because we are serious about things, anyone who was previously banned who would like to post again on OcUK forums feel free to contact myself or anyone from the moderating team and each case shall be reviewed, but people are coming back and getting their original accounts restored. :)

There will be more to come, but on behalf of OcUK we just wanted to inform you our customers/members of whats going on. :)

Can I suggest first order of business... proof reading and spell checker!
