OcUK's plans for the future and new blood...

I think in all my time of OcUK no review has ever been biased, though the reviews I did were mainly heatsinks and trying to blow up graphics cards. :D

Anything done in the future will most likely be done by forum members, so not under companies payroll, but generall any advice given is off an honest oppinion but like everything oppinions can differ.

But its early days, a discussion for later on. :)

Please avoid situations like the ATI 2900 review before. It was embarrassing.

If you're serious, you should remove the "Life" section of the forum.. Fair enough i do post some rubbish, but so does everyone else, Atleast i dont make any threads.

I came to ocuk, read every single post relating to what i was going to buy, bought it, built my PC, and now i have no cash to spend on PC stuff.. But i am bored i go to GD for a bit of time wasting. Mainly because im not bothered to read about hardware when i am not buying anything.

Removing the "life" sections of OCUK would actually be a literal death of the forums for many people, in particular those whom only have a passing interest in hardware.

From a business perspective it'd be commercial suicide. People like those are basically a captured market (like pretty much we all are) because we can see special offers and even if not a special offer, the shop is a click away.

It'd basically make the forums appeal to those heavily into tech only - thus nuking many of the visits from "the remainder"

That would be a great start. As well as regulating those members who think their self importance and ability to flex the rules increases with post count.

I think the general idea was to disprove the (incorrect) views held by some that this place is run by a bunch of Nazi commandants. Banning stuff out of hand doesn't seem to go very well with that spirit.

At the moment, it is one of the worst user experiences a new visitor could receive in most of the forums here. New users are slapped down, bullied and put in their place, often incorrectly. They're here for a reason, and that WILL affect their decision on where to purchase next.

However, fostering common sense and decency towards others, where needed, would go a long way to dispelling the bad feelings held by anyone who shares this view.

Spie tells me there is a firefox mod, so install that. :p

In regards to doing a Skin, well its very time consuming and our technical director has a list longer than his arm, but we shall add it. :)
There are plenty of people in this community who have vast experience with skinning vBulletin, perhaps a "design the new OcUK Forum Skin" competition in the future:D

Completely agree, I don't have the money to spend on a new build each year anymore because of other commitments. When I do buy hardware I usually buy it from here though. If it wasn't for the life forums I probably would check for new deals on this site as often.

Conversely I probably only shop with OcUK on account of the connection I feel to the forums (largely to the lifestyle forums), rather than buying as a result of it's collective tech knowledge; and say I only upgrade once every 18/24 months, it's usually £1200-1500 a time. That adds up to a fair whack when you consider the numbers involved. Plus any consumables and upgrades along the way etc etc. I would imagine it's the same for many users/customers. Seems pretty worthwhile to me, from a business perspective. Brand loyalty is very difficult to cultivate!.

Hm, sounds like the management is getting paranoid about the negative rep that ALL admins on forums recieve.

Basically every forum on the internet will have X% (majority) of members who consider the higher-ups to be power crazed morons.

Don't let it get to you OcUK. Who cares what the legions of morons think. You'll never be everyones friend. Don't try to be.
