OcUK's plans for the future and new blood...

Never had a problem with the mods since I've been on here, but welcome any effort to improve the forums.

I agree jaybee, especially about the attitudes sometimes, it needs to be stamped out tbh. It can be like a little exclusive club sometimes where nobody's welcome.

In terms of MM, I think the rules are there for everyone to read, people are reminded to adhere by them and you can't relax it too much. You already get 3 strikes before your access is removed as far as I know. I find the rules acceptable, only a tiny bit harsh but it keeps the place in order, which is really necessary when money is being exchanged, sometimes very large amounts. I understand there's not always time for mods to take everything on a case-by-case basis, in fact, it's probably a waste of time. Just make sure new members are reminded to abide by the rules (maybe an automated email when their trust is activated?) and it should be perfectly fair.

Perhaps it has changed but I have heard of people being suspended for a week at a time for one incident. i.e. No warning, just instantly suspended. I know if there are 3 incidents like this you are out for good, but it would be better to warn people and/or edit posts rather than getting the ban hammer out. This only frustrates people who are in the middle of transactions and/or open threads etc. There's no need for it. Just explain what the problem is and to react otherwise you face a suspension. Not just...bang; no access for a week with people trying to contact you about stuff.

:)

I agree that it's necessary for people to know why they've been banned/suspended. I think the punishment is at the mods discretion. Perhaps they need to chat to make sure the punishments are all consistent, but if it was worthy of a week suspension, so be it.

Absolutely right jaybee :)

I'm like plenty of others here, you cannot be expected to remember every single rule, especially when a member of multiple forums. Anyone that says otherwise is just baiting for the sake of it. I've been suspended about 3 times i think, i felt aggrieved each time tbh, but i don't hold it against anyone in particular. Modding is hard and i appreciate the work the guys do.
BUT the underlying theme from most, and happily its been acknowledged by the powers that be, is the inconsistency in modding.
Warnings would be much better than instant bannings, especially in MM.

Here's hoping it does improve and good luck and thanks to the guys that take on the roles.

improvements are always good.

been here a long time and never had any complaints.

welcome back btw

:)

/edit i think perhaps people get a little too precious over membership to an internet forum

Every single rule?

There's only a few main ones (such as):

Don't swear
Don't link to competitors
Don't troll / be rude
Don't hotlink
Don't Spam

Any other rules are clearly stated on for example Members market or the random picture thread.

Implement it yourself you lazy git :p.

Lol, I think that's the official response too, more or less!

I'd use it, but the stylish extension in chrome applies it like half a second after the page loads, so I get a flash of blue, then black. Very annoying since I only use Chrome, just gone back to blue now. There are a few readability issues for me with the black theme, mainly with the grey text.

Well its only the MM ones i've been suspended for (iirc). Some of the rules are ambigous (ie. "if a mod/don thinks its a bump, then its a bump!") that's a little unfair, as its down to the discretion...AND MOOD of the overseing don/mod when deciding your fate and in the MM it can cost you and other members money.
I've never tried to take the **** with the rules, i've been either forgetful or been harshly treated, so warnings would be very welcome.
But moreover and has been said before, the perception of the forums is often worse than the truth, especially when linked to an online business. There are some plonkers on these boards (as with other boards) and they can be members and/or staff.
These are just my opinions, but overall i'm happy being a member here...otherwise i'd leave. ;) I'm just glad to see certain things are being noticed and reviewed.

It would be good if all the ATI/Nvidia fanboy stuff was reduced in the graphics card section. It seems that many threads have to get straight down to justifying one over the other and then getting flamed for it rather than just talking about graphics cards/price/performance etc.

In a similar way, anyone who dares to admit to liking or wanting an iphone gets the same treatment in the mobile phones section.

It's got to the point that you refrain from making relevant posts because of the repercussions.

The gfx problems were reduced a lot, I think there's a sticky now, but basically they're not going to tolerate it any more, and it's a lot better than it was.

The iphone issue seems to be both ways I'm afraid. As long as it doesn't become personal, discussion is fine, but I'm totally sick of me and others being accused of being fanboys of a certain product if you have a slightly different viewpoint or disagree with someone. I think they should consider it a personal attack and encourage people to RTM the post, as it lowers the tone of the whole forum.

That probably wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for the unwritten rule that appeared from a mod that all iPhone stuff goes in the Apple forum. If mobile phone discussion stayed in the mobiles forum then there might be some healthy discussion instead of slating individual choices.
