OcUK's plans for the future and new blood...

I am surprised their is a feeling that the forum is strict. Yes, maybe compared to some but look how well it is run. GFX card 'fan boys' need a look in, I can't really think of anything else. Who is DVDBunny btw? I keep seeing his name.

I joined the forums back in the day when OcUK stocked K6-2 processors.
I seem to recall them having the best guides on overclocking etc
Benchmarks of ALL products they get, not just announcements
real tests of the goods sold by staff and by members!
we need these back!

Perhaps it has changed but I have heard of people being suspended for a week at a time for one incident. i.e. No warning, just instantly suspended. I know if there are 3 incidents like this you are out for good, but it would be better to warn people and/or edit posts rather than getting the ban hammer out. This only frustrates people who are in the middle of transactions and/or open threads etc. There's no need for it. Just explain what the problem is and to react otherwise you face a suspension. Not just...bang; no access for a week with people trying to contact you about stuff.

:)

Absolutely agree. I would think that the least they could do was to at least email us to explain the ban, rather than for us to assume it was down to an infringment in MM.

Most of the times it isnt out of intention, but like someone said, confusion over the rules. It is far too easy (or feels like it) to get banned for overstepping some arbitary rule (in MM and in a normal forum). In fact, I feel like there may be a chance to get banned for typing this very paragraph since it may appear to be "moaning" or "complaining" rather than a discussion. Ok, so i may be paranoid, but still that is the impression that I have got.

While I agree that it may be difficult to control a forum of guys, some who may be young in their years, a totally zero tolerance approach will also serve to deter people coming here.

It takes years to "undo" any of this bad rep that is built up about "power crazed mods". Personally I dont think you lot are "power crazed", but maybe a tad "overzealous", a touch "inflexible" perhaps, clearly not that bad since most of us are still lurking about here. I suppose only time will tell which direction this place takes. All the best.

I agree with the zero tolerance in MM, money, sometimes in large amounts is being exchanged, if you can't be bothered to read the rules then you shouldn't be in there.

And at the end of the day in most cases it's only a 24hr suspension, hardly the end of the world.

I DON'T LIKE CHANGE!!

nah, really I do :)

This is good news, there is an impression that people do get swept under the rug and never allowed to speak about them... Makes it worse that it's human nature to be inquizitive and ask about them! :p

I personally could not disagree more. I think those moderating MM have a duty to be hardline. It can be more lax elsewhere (and is) but not in MM.

Blimey, i'm surprised at such a 'hardline' approach tbh, especially when some moody mod will suspend you for trying to help out in a thread.
Or changing your price and inadvertently mentioning so, then getting suspended for a 'bump'....thats just ridiculous.
Its because money IS involved that i think warnings should be metered out, not instant suspensions. 24 hours can make a difference if someone is expecting to receive their goods (if buying) or money (if selling).

A lot of people like to help out on here....but you feel like you cannot do that on MM in case you get banned for posting something that doesn't have a £ sign in it.

There are no moods, only rules and those that cannot follow them. Don't try to help out in any way other than reporting the post.

Sounds all good! can't wait to see what deals and new aspects ocuk bring out this year

Welcome back Gibbo

Thus defeating the object of the forums?
In my case it was simply that i advised the seller about his product that he wasn't aware of.
He thanked me in a personal email because i got suspended for it and couldn't read the boards. I got no reason as to why i was suspended. I sent an email to the admin, got no reply. So, actually, i'm assuming that's why i got suspended. I don't post offensive crap in GD or anywhere else, so it cold only really have been in MM.

And, please, every mod that is allowed to use discretion will do so depending on their moods at the time. Its human nature. I'm not admonishing them for it (we all do it), but it could do with having some flexibility to it....like warnings.

If somebody like me can post on these forums for as long as i have then anybody can.
I don't agree that the mods are to harsh I just think that some could communicate better. One thing I hate is a mod/admin being casual about the forum. Current admin/mods Past & Present should set the example & the example needs to be sociable but respectful.

My Ten cents.
