OcUK's plans for the future and new blood...

Great to see a level headed approach for the future! Welcome back Gibbo. Let's get the OcUK forum to even greater heights and shrug off those old opinions of this place from "outsiders".

On the Members Market, I've been too scared of posting in there ever since I was suspended (twice possibly) for very minor offences. Not used it since then, have things changed?

Just make sure you read the rules and you'll be fine. If in any doubt, contact me or an MM Don - Thundycat, Burnsy or Fire Wizard.

Rules are there to be abided by and i have slipped up and got permabanned myself of which i regretted big time.

It would be nice to see a different approach to how the rules are upheld and punishments dealt with. For serious offences then i agree one has to be harsh and to the point but i thinnk a bit of thought and sympathetic warnings would probably go down better with the gang than instant suspensions / bans.

I am sure that at the end of the day 99% of forum members just want to get on with each other, try and be civil, try and abide by the rules and not go out of thier way to cause waves.

I have learnt the hard way and know that with the mods help etc i hope to become a good member of this fine forum. We all make mistakes at the end of the day and a little push in the right direction is better than a slap across the face with a sledge hammer!! lol

My main criticism of the moderation on this forum is purely limited to the members market area. I know of many people that have recieved bans from this area purely because of over the top moderation. I appreciate that there are forum rules to try to keep the place running smoothly, but I have seen and experienced genuine attemps from people to post information in there on a thread only to be banned (when they have open threads and people trying to contact them) for something minor like a misinterpreted bump or expressing interest in a thread without posting a price or something.

I also think that it gets quite heated and disrespectful in the motors forum (and sometimes general). There are a certain few members that spoil it for the rest with their attitudes. They know what they are doing. They post within the rules (just) but make the place very uninviting for newer members and are argumentative for the sake of it.

Not sure what can be done about the second above point, but hey.

There is no over the top moderation in the MM, well not now:p The MM is a very hard place to mod, trust me I have been doing it for nearly a year but I love a challenge:)

In the past when somebody broke a simple rule, we would edit there post but a lot of the time they would not see the edit and break the rule again.:( But in the last couple of weeks we have introduced a MM infraction which will allow as to warn peeps and hopefully stop them eventually losing their MM access due to silly rule breaks.

As you quite rightly said the Rules are there for a reason to protect the sellers and buyers who use the MM, so read the rules and you will not get banned.;)

TC.

Get rid of the  icon.
Every time I see someone use it against someone else I want to punch the screen.
(I'm not bothered about myself even though I might pretend to).

I actually agree with this. Even when someone sincerely means to use it to indicate sarcasm I tend to instantly think they're being a belligerent bum-nugget.

My main complaint about this place is the lack of respect for "alternative" stories and discussion in GD. Anything UFO or conspiracy related (for example) is immediately mocked, the poster treated like a moron, and ultimately the thread is closed. There was one a few days ago where a mod closed it with the comment "people will believe anything". Well, I'm sorry, but I'd rather read some of these crazier stories than the endless "spec me a piece of toast" and "how do I talk to a girl" threads. It actually drove me away from here for a long time because I couldn't stand the narrow-minded attitude displayed by a lot of people. So for me, mods need to both maintain an atmosphere of respect (without losing the genuinely amusing fun-poking, natch...) and not close threads just because they think it's a silly story.

We need more smileys!

Sort of true - but also some of the reports are pretty stupid.

A conspiracy, or thoughts on a UFO are one thing, crazy lizard men from the planet zog running all governments in the world for their entertainment, all sitting around a large table in their fortress of evil, complete with Stalin and Hitler (whom were both lizzard men in disguise, naturally) is a bit much though.

And the above point brings me to my final point. There is a legacy of fear of speaking out left behind from days gone by. The result was a team of "yes men" moderating OcUK. This legacy needs to be quashed and it can only be done by the people at the top.

Current lot?

Don't agree with that TBH.

Gibbo any chance of getting ocuk to supply some goodies or display some prebuilt systems for the ocuk lan gimpy is trying to set up?

This, GD has turned into a childish place.
