New PC build

re:

to be honest you are right, it is more because of the red theme in the case. But taking into account what your'e saying i will go for the ud3. The total price for my package is £1300. Though i can afford to spend this amount, i would consider a review to see if i am really doing the best with that budget. Any recommendations on builds are welcome.

So the build as it stands:

sure, the hard drive in the link is still mechanical, but the wd 1tb has more cache though i am not sure if that will make a lot of difference.

OK, will skip the sound card as it wont make much difference.

The speed difference between the top three performance hardisks, Samsung F3(not the ecogreen)/Western digital black and the Seagate barracuda 7200.12, are so small it doesnt really matter which you buy, it actually comes down to price per gigabyte.

ok cool. Thanks. Which PSU did you want to suggest? Could any other improvements be made on the ram and the graphics card?

seasonic actually make most of the psu's for other makes, such as corsair/Antec/XFX and others I cant remember.

I know its less wattage, but even 750w will power your build, and even an extra 5870 if you ever wanted crossfire.

review of the seasonic here- http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story5&reid=192

or.

you could just get 1000w of Antec power http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-132-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1088 and not ever worry about, "does my psu have enough power"

or

BeQuiet make some beefy psu's- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=123&subid=1083

I was researching for components on a new build and the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R looked promising, but was instantly put off because of electronic interference as reported in the reviews. I've had 2 Gigabytes and found the boot times are longer to boot (BIOS checking screens takes 80secs) with SATA RAIDs. The high-end Rampage III looks is excellent and it looks great! Nothing annoying to report about that mobo in all the reviews I've read online. Get it if your into oc'd to 4.2Ghz and beyond, otherwise get something a bit cheaper.

Although there are many great alternatives to Dominator GT, its the one I've got on my list but only because its companion is the 980x. The 2000MHz version is only £20 more atm than the 1866MHz. As an cheaper alternative, consider the OCZ Reaper 6GB (MY-200-OC) at £166; this would be adequate for your needs.

I sure hope you read up before installing your WC system because from the looks of it (no offence intended), you seem inexperienced. PS. Get red tubing instead of red dye. The dye tends to gunk up your whole loop. The case that you picked will be hard to venture into custom water cooling with. As far as I could see, there is no possibility of fitting a dual rad without modification.

In the build below, I have outlined what I would think to be the best spec. The fact that the 5850 is used is because the new ATI 6xxx series is coming out in Q3/4 and with the money saved from using a 5850 + second hand resale value means that you could possibly afford the 6870! The H50 is a easy and powerful watercooling solution, all in one and with no possibility of a cockup - ie leaks ect. The Corsair case, although one would have to wait has the space for a dual rad + is cheaper than the Cosmos S. If you do not want to wait for the case in the build, the x00D cases from Corsair are very good for watercooling.

Even better is waiting until next year or Q4. SSDs will hopefully become affordable, Intel will release Sandy Bridge, AMD will release their latest chips, ATI will have the 6xxx series and nVidia will have something to present. Plus, if you save up, you'll have even more money to spend on a computer! (please note that I'd rather split the money and build a mid range computer then use the rest for upgrades) If you do wait until next year/Q4, I'd recommend learning about computers even more so that your first build is a successful one.

re:
Thanks for the advice. I will look to overclock, though i have never done it b4.

any opinions on the following equipment for water cooling:

-DDC Ultra with XSPC Top & Anti Vibe Mounts
- XSPC RS360 with Yate Loons
- XSPC Delta Block
- D-Tek Fuzion GPU Block with Enzotech Heatsinks
- XSPC Bay Reservoir
- 1/2" XSPC Tubing with Primochill Coils

I have never done it b4, but found the above equipment set for another comos build on the following link: http://forum.watercoolinguk.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3026

Just wondering if instructions are given.

p.s. any ideas where to get these from for a good price?
