OcUK's plans for the future and new blood...

You do rather have a reputation over here. I mean OcUK as a whole. Many people simply think the place is run by a few elite members and the rest of the herd just follow their lead. I must say this has become very true over the last few years since I stopped posting regularly here. Also iron fist is sometime employed a little too liberally giving people the impression of oppression. Ban hammers need to be a final resort.

I'm sure JohnnyG could explain why then?

At a guess (from the post he quoted), he was implying that Matthew was reporting a lot of posts regarding his sexuality. Which he more often than not brings up.

People are free to use the RTM on whichever posts they want. If they abuse that facility, I'm sure the moderating team will take appropriate action. I don't think one users use of the RTM should be discussed or even implied out in the open though. It just makes the moderator in question look bad.

I was just correcting you, but you appear to have some sort of problem with matthewhotdude anyway regarding his sexuality or how he portrays himself that goes further than this thread or the other one.

Thank you.

We already have that here. Its called 'Ignore List'.

Problem with the ignore list is you still get to see their post, just not the content, and then curiousity gets the better of you :)

Thankfully over the course of my 10 years here I've only had cause to put 1 or maybe 2 on ignore.

I don't want to see the ignore notification though, because you want to click on the "Click here to read the message" out of curiosity!

I also think there needs to be rules on what is racist and what isnt according to the OCUK team for Speakers subcategory. Many threads get ruined where something will get posted, and a member of a non-white community will post that if a white person disagrees with their opinion that they are racist. This also happens the other way round in some cases. Its the internet, no one cares what race or religion you are, there should be total equality.

As much as how this "seems" like a good idea, DONT.

In addition to opening up a whole jar of worms, it also potentially leaves the door open to actual litigation, whereby the actual "rules" itself, and thus OCUK maybe "racist" in one way or other.

This one is best avoided, and the current rules on hate/abuse is enough. Wouldnt want this place to suddenly disappear because of one disgruntled member.

I think what you want to do will take a lot more moderation than you are thinking, you do need a few technically minded mods but over the past few months you need a gilly to stop the spam.

No say you should bring gilly back as we never saw eye to eye an I think he is and egotistical forum bully due to the position he had, but apart from that he did make this place a lot more spam free.

But either way i think the level of moderation on a whole is ok but their is amiss match in standard, things you would get banned for go unnoticed in motors but that comes down to individual moderators.

I like the nodding, some times seems harsh, but the forums are so much tidier and less crap than pretty much any other.

Would be nice if mods used yellow text, instead of justdeleting posts. Like what happens in members Market. Not only does it inform user, it reminds everyone else of the rules.

Most of the moderating team here are dedicated to making OcUK a better place to post but they are being held back by poor procedures and poor delegation. I don't know if they have raised it yet but a lot of the team were frustrated with how things were run when I was doing it.

And the above point brings me to my final point. There is a legacy of fear of speaking out left behind from days gone by. The result was a team of "yes men" moderating OcUK. This legacy needs to be quashed and it can only be done by the people at the top.

I hope my feedback is welcome.

I agree, and I haven't felt able to say this until I saw you posting that here for fear of being banned.

I don't think their is a current problem with how the forum is moderated. Back in 05-06 it was very strict, but fair enough - You knew where you stood if you broke the rules.

I agree their should be emails sent to people letting them know why they've been banned instead of just outright banning them. I can't really think of any other issues though.

The MM is moderated perfectly and a place like that needs really strict rules and guidelines, after all people are dealing with real money. And I don't think it's much to ask for the users of the MM to have a read through of the rules, they aren't complicated and should be followed easily.

Just my opinion.

[*]To squash the impression some have that this forum is run by powercrazed moderators, its not but their is an impression out there it is. This is a fantastic forum to be a part off and its very well moderated but we do have some plans to make it even better and to improve communication between members and the moderating team to deal with issues to a more satisfactory liking for both parties.

Stop suspending people for posting a few swearies or slightly naughty pics tbh (I have like 2 or 3 to my name for that already)

:D

I'll second that lack of consistency.

Poster1 = average joe member
Poster2 = ex-moderator and "buddies" with current mods

Poster1 is trolling and gets called a troll. No action taken.
Poster2 is trolling and gets called a troll. The "offending" person has his post edited for what is now suddenly consisdered to be a "personal insult".
Hah, so true. I think my last suspension was from ThudyCat for joking saying he's trolling or something along those lines

Its not so bad any more. I remember a while back, quite a few youtube videos being removed due to the comments containing swearies. What made it worse was all the people posting ZOMG SWEARIES IN TEH LINK!!!

This. People are allowed to come out with the most hateful, nationalistic, educationally devoid **** all over the place, making GD practically the (un)official Daily Mail readers forum... yet If I replace those stars for the harmless, contextually appropriate word you're thinking of anyway, I'm out for 24 hours.
