**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

so i'm going to be paying extra because other people choose to break the law and play for free? are you for real? its not like activision blizzard are running out of money because of piracy. they charge more because they know idiots like you will pay for it.

Blizzard are in the great financial state they are through clever marketing skills. Fair play to them if they want to charge more because of "idiots like" me.

Out of all the games ive owned Diablo 2 and World of Warcraft provided me with the best value for money.

Ive never even played the Starcraft games properly but I dont see the harm in charging 35 quid. Why should console games demand a higher price when pc games normally have more support and options?

I'll be getting a retail copy then. No point paying the same for digital and getting less.

I'm going for the digital copy. It is just like steam, I'm willing to pay equal (or slightly more for some games) for the convenience of a digital purchase the moement it is available (and having the game downloaded and ready before the release day), and not having phsyical media that I look at once and then it just takes up space for the rest of its life. You may be getting less for your money in terms of actual product, but you get more in terms of convenience from buying directly from blizzard, no delivery charges, and garunteed release day play.

People are not idiots because they feel that the game is worth that much. If starcraft 2 wasn't worthy of a £35 then people wouldn't buy it, but it is which is why so many people are willing to pay that much for it. It all comes down to what people judge a product to be worth, and for all the gameplay for many years that starcraft 2 will give I consider £35 a reasonable cost.

In this case though mate you can get the retail and still have the convenience of being able to download the game.

You bind the key to your blizz account and thats it done.

Yes but you still have to get a phsyical copy, meaning either paying for shipping online or the time/fuel costs to get to a store and buy it in person, just to get the CD key that is inside it, in which case you may as well just install of the disc since you will have it anyway.

I just think digital purchases are the more efficient option.

Just because you have a dispatch e-mail doesn't mean it was actually collected today. More likely it is sitting in a mail sack ready to be picked up tomorrow morning.

it says

25/07/2010 Your order has been dispatched

but why would they say that if not true ?

Your order has left the building and will be with you soon! Your credit/debit card will now be charged in accordance with your instructions and if you are a Reward Member your points will be added to your card.

Yeh sorry what I meant was you didn't lose the ability to download the game if you got it retail.

Because they want your money? It is likely just a token e-mail they send out regardless of the order type or date.

As far as I'm aware Royal Mail don't collect on Sundays, they stopped that years ago. Not 100% sure but that is what I read.

I thought they did as well.

Anyone be interested in n00b only games? To find our feet? Email me in trust if you are. Trying to find a group of noob RTS players to get started in the game.

its not about the £10. in these cases its never about the money. its about developers ripping us off and charging more than they should. There are tons of games around to play so waiting for a price drop is not hard at all. especially when games like company of heroes or even warcraft 3 are vastly superior and make sc2 outdated before its even out.

I remember back in the day when EA released Sims 2 at £34.99 RRP. People moaned about the raising of prices and it did nothing to hinder it popularity. Now £34.99 is the normal PC game RRP.
I just comes down to if you believe it's value for money. Hell i bought the SC2 CE. It's not the best by any means but i do love the hardback art book and it's all top quality unlike some CE''s i've seen in the past (Batman Arkham Asylum on PS3 and 360).

i never knew they did a sunday service ? , anyways it says they have sent it special delivery (no idea why lol)

Ive got the CE pre ordered, quite expensive but the way I see it, the value of a game depends on how long it keeps you entertained, £10 for a new game is a ripoff if it only lasts an hour and has no replayability. Also we are fairly lucky that blizzard decided not to charge a monthly subscription charge for online play.

Fact of the matter is, if it didn't have starcraft in the title - people would be saying it's too expensive, or probably wouldn't even be interested. The argument that it's worth it because SC1 gave you so much entertainment doesn't hold up either because none of the developers who worked on SC1 have worked on SC2, it's an entirely different team. So really it's a different team working on a different game which happens to be in the starcraft universe.

If it were the exact same game with warhammer in the title, and warhammer skins then all this hype wouldn't exist. It's like designer clothing, only a designer game. You're paying for the name and many (not all but many) players wouldn't be buying it if it didn't have that name.

I trust Blizzard. They've made some of the best games that i've ever played over the past 15 years or so. The same goes for Valve, i buy their games because of what they have produced in the past.
