I reckon the americans have it right.
Lock them up in jail, and make it hard. Dont put them in a nice cosy cell with a sink, a toilet, a TV and a window.

One however is foreseeable, the other is not. it is rare to be allergic to chillis and not something you can know. Beating someone up can always result in death, however easy you think you are going.
It's not murder, but rules need changing for a another class, or maybe just change guidelines for existing offences.
Doesn't America have 1st degree, 2nd degree and manslaughter? all with very long sentences.

Nah, you are just sensible. I wouldnt put coke in a strangers drink, in fact, I wouldnt put chili in anyones drink that I didnt know quite well. In which case you would probably know about an allergy that was serious enough to kill one of your good friends.

Its probably best if we just dont talk to each other again, I simply dont need to hurt my "friends" or strangers to have fun, you seem to think its normal to hurt anyone to have fun, so we obviously have little in common so not much point in continuing to interact. Yea first degree is premeditated. 2nd degree is 'heat of the moment' but you meant to kill him. Manslaughter is 'you didn't mean to kill the guy'.
In the UK the maximum sentence for manslaughter is the same as the maximum sentence for murder.

However within that there are still guidelines to follow. Now I have no idea what they are, but it is not always judges fault. A lot of the time it comes down to what they are allowed to dish out.

You seem to be ignoring me when I say that they weren't his friend or family having a laugh.
They were hurting an innocent old man for their own amusement not playing a prank on next of kin or friends.

I hope so, if not, I think we need a photo of britboy so that if I see him looking mischievous around here I can warn people that he may maim/kill them in the name of ***** and giggles. Its ok though because he didnt want to kill them, it was just a likely outcome.

I can. I don't agree with it. But I can understand the line of humour they were following. In other words, I understand (don't agree with) their motivation for doing the crime. Most people in here don't, and you try and explain it to them, they get all wierd and nasty - I just think it's because they feel like I'm digging at them because they don't understand how this kind of thing occurs, and I do..
Imagine throwing a custard pie into a complete strangers face and filming it. It's basically exactly the same school of humour (taken to an unacceptable extreme). Which lots of people don't understand. That's all I'm saying. It's wierd no-one 'gets it' at all ...
