OcUK's plans for the future and new blood...

Why would the rep system not be abused though, don't shoot me, just playing devils advocate!

Rep systems dont work. Whats to stop your friends giving you positives and people who dont like you giving you negatives, and then the rest of the forum assuming your great / evil just because of your "rep". Absolutely pointless.

Because I believe the rep system can be moderated, When someone submits a score a moderator would verify it ?

It just an idea.

Personally I hate the Holocaust 'jokes' and have given up reporting them as nothing seems to be done. I cannot abide racism of any kind and I include race and religion in this. Why do people think that it is fine to post things on here that they would never dream of saying to someone's face?

That is what happens in this place.

I'm sure most these people work with people of different skin colour and religious beliefs, I don't understand why they don't show the same level of respect behind a computer.

Just my two penny worth but the forum seems to be much less mature than it was a short time ago. Everything is now very sarcastic, a lot more "stupid" replies than serious ones. There are still very good threads - witty and serious - but sometimes a person creates a thread and gets ripped apart by the same generic responses.

The award for the best post of the year goes to.... SideWinder.

Oh and I'm NOT being sarcastic.

How would you verify the age though unless you start checking users against there orders and whether they used a credit card, not feasible in my opinion.

Well against there DOB they give at registration....sure it wont be perfect but better than it is now....works on my forums ok. Not many lie about there age at registration because they have no reason to.

Which is why I think my idea of an age restricted area would be good

There is no fool proof way of confirming a person's true age on the Internet.

What should be banned are these stupid "thanks for the info", "in before the lock", "reinstall Google", "Uninstall OcUK", etc etc etc. I'm sure you can all think of examples of generic so called "funny" responses which grind your gears and helps slowly decrease the quality of the General Discussion area.

That would be a massive workload for the Mods though.

We would need another mod just for that though

Another reason I think it would work is because Youtube have a similar system for its comments. Where ppl can mark racist comments and similar vulgar things as spam and automatically are hidden or removed.

I know it might mean more mods, but if you want Ocuk to be a representation of UK and its diversity and culture along with anyone international joining. They need to feel welcome and not afraid to post something, because they are different.

Probably why post your pics of yourself or GF, there is not a lot of people of colour, probably cause they feel they might get called all the names under the sun, considering the racist threads I mentioned.

Ohh yea deffinatly but I wont mention it because I will get accused of bringing my sexuality up again.

Ah yes your thread regarding your Sexuality, Which incidentally got me banned for trying to have a debate regarding a gay gene, and Davies insulting me for my posts.

Remember it very well, what is strange is that mods gets special treatment, because if I remember correctly they posted a lot more of a opinionated view, where I was trying to have a constructive debate that got out of hand.

I guess we need a sub category for gays now according to some members of this forum, so as to no one gets offended.

I like how twoblacklines wants to segregate ppl on this forum.

Which is why I think my idea of an age restricted area would be good

It's never likely to happen but I don't think it's either a good idea or necessary for a couple of reasons. One: the implicit implication (whether intentional or not) is that people under a set age are not worth considering which is quite blatantly false, some of the most insightful comments I've read have come from those under 21 at the time - age is no guarantee of the person making sense. Two: what do we need an age restricted section for? If you want adult materials then you don't have to look too hard on the internet to find something catering to almost any prediliction possible or equally if it's the ability to swear freely and discuss drugs or anything else it's not too difficult to find.

Clearly members would change their date of birth on their profile to access such a forum though? It just wouldn't work.
As for the rep system, I think it may be too difficult to moderate. The idea of a dedicated moderator for checking each rep is a good one but could get very busy!
I'm sure the plans in the pipeline will help though ;)

It just an idea, and like other users have mentioned I don't know how manageable it would be.

I could probably place money though that this thread could potentially get locked, with people insulting each other.

If other members do come I almost certainly know what they will say, something about freedom of speech and why Islam has to have special treatment on a tech forum(twoblacklines)

Its not just about Islam or any other Abrahamic religion.

Sometimes I have to check I am not on an EDL forum, when I see individuals like dirtydog posting.

What part of what you quoted has anything to do with sexuality? Stop playing the wounded lamb. I brought up something I felt needed to be addressed and we discussed it like adults, which is exactly what you're asking for in this thread.. more adult discussion and less childish replies.

And i have never ever made any silly comments on another persons beliefs...thats not the way i have been raised;)...or at least i cant remember making disrespectful remarks...so unless you can come up with proof backing your ludicrous claim then i suggest you refrain from making them.

The "Draw Mohammed" day thread. You made some less than delightful remarks regarding Hinduism.
