Are you arguing for the sake of it or something? I've no idea what point you are trying to make. I used the term 'That isnt Spain' as a general term to highlight what I meant.

Which is that £1500 isn't exactly a huge amount of money for a 2 week holiday - you'll pay that for any half decent non European destination that isn't frequented by package tours and Easyjet.

If I read this correctly in that you've spent £1500 on a holiday to Canary Islands

Then £1500 isn't too bad for 2 weeks.

When I went with the gf a couple of years back we got a week at a 5 star hotel for £350 a head inc flights and transfers etc.

That used to be the case but the charter airlines have really improved over last few years

For long haul the charter airlines now have better seating, 33 pitch instead of 31, this is the most important thing to me

entertainment depends on age of aircraft generally but most are pretty similar

in regard to food there is nothing in it

yes the scheduled have free booze but they are very tight with it and with Virgin will usually pretend to have run out about 2-3 hours into the flight

I use VA a lot for Vegas, I book a pair of normal tickets every so often, this gets me 20k miles which I use to subsidise next few tickets

You can also get them through credit cards , certain vendors and loads of other ways

And as I said, you can do 2 weeks for 2 in a 5* hotel in Egypt (all inclusive as well) for about £1000-1100.
You can even do that on a hotel island like thing, with nothing but hotel, pool and beach there

What I'm basically saying is that if you dont want the typical package tour/all inclusive thomas cook brochure stuff, then £1500 isnt exactly a huge amount of money per person for a 2 week holiday.

Emirates is the way forward the cover most fo the Globe - business class is v modern particulalry on the A380 routes. On the airmiles front - Amex has some schemes which allow points to be credited towards travel flights.

The other option is a Bank of New Zealand Credit Card which allows you to collect airpoints dollars for every spend you make on it, and if you book on Air New Zealand (good premium economy services - particulalry on 747) then you get extra points too - also you can collect points on Star Alliance airlines - I usually get enough points to have a return business cass flight to New Zealand every year.

Emirates aren't great in economy, they fit 10 seats across on a 777 where other airlines fit 9
