How do you remember your passwords?

Hey guys,

I think this belongs in GD as it's not platform specific, rather something any computer user can relate to :)

I suspect I'm not alone here, but recently the number of passwords and usernames that I am collecting seems to have spiralled out of control! I am fully aware of good Computer Security practice and so am conscious about simply using a single password for everything, but even so I'm finding myself with far more accounts than I can remember the details for.

So, I was just wondering, what methods do people on here use to remember all their details, and does anybody use a password bank or similar?

All the best,

MW

I have 3 main passwords that I use different variations of. Probably not the best practice but they are all >12 characters so I'm pretty confident they are secure enough.

I have a few main ones, just got to remember which one is for what. Aldo if it has a number in as its required

So brain power!

I think I remember around 10, 6 of which are for work, they are mainly a phrase and some numbers. all around 10 or more characters.

I have a few ones I use, but I frequently forget and have to reset them. For really important ones I write them down.

I find with every new password - if I use it enough, it just sticks :p

I have loads of passwords with random numbers and letters and I can remember them after I've used them enough :)

Have been meaning to swap over all my passwords. Had created 5 random passwords, all pretty strong but never got round to changing them.

I have two main password structures and then sub variations of each.

1. Aaaaaa1
2. Aaaa@Aaaa123@

The first varies by number at the end, the second is my ultra-mega-secure-thing for more important access.

I have a system, based on a theme. All my passwords are different and appear as a combination of nonsensicle upper/lower case numbers, symbols (where applicable) and numbers. All are changed regularly. If I forget the password I can derive it again.

Interestingly my OcUK password is the only one that doesn't fit into this system and is a bit crap :o
