I've got a Sony BDP-S570 Bluray player which has USB connectivity, and the player also supports .mkv files. At the moment I've got an 8gb USB Flash Drive and tried playing a movie from there and it worked fine. Now I'm looking to buy an external hard drive which would be optimal for storing movies on; anyone got any recommendations? Looking for 500GB - 1TB, price is not an issue at this moment.

Hmm so you can just plug in a usb drive and watch your converted (ahem arhived blue rays) from the hard rive?

If so thats cool, was going to build a htpc and stream them from main pc but if you can just do this that is awesome. Do you get thumnbails and such on your mkvs or folder art?

Sorry just another question, I presume disks fave to be formatted in fat32? If so that sucks doesnt it as you are limited to a 4gb file...

Yeah, ones i've downloaded, 720p/1080p .mkv's; just put them onto the usb drive and they work a charm.

Don't get folder art but get thumnails; basically the GUI is the same as the PS3's on this bluray player :)

Not sure about this, I tried a 6GB .mkv and it ran just fine :)

Brilliant thanks, have read some reviews and the player seems to be able to play any size mkv which is good. It does read ntfs volumes unlike the ps3 so file size shouldnt be a problem.

Regarding the hard drive I have a couple of WD Eco Green, probably stick one in a caddy and use that to plug into the blu ray player.

Other than that I guess any will do, you probably just want the quietest and largest you can afford.
