So after selling my S2000 two weeks ago I started my search for the elusive ST220 in good condition for a non inflated price. I bought an old cheapy 15 year old mondeo with a years mot to last me as I needed a car for commuting to work a bit sharpish, also since after viewing 6 ST220s (all overpriced and not immaculate as the adds said!) i had lost a bit of hope.

However on Sunday I saw an add for a 2005 ST220 in performance blue with sat nav, rear audio and parking sensors (no xenons but they seem to be extremely rare!). All for the price of £4800! I thought theres no way it could be in great condition considering its very underpriced, however on inspection before the guy arrived home from work I knew there and then i was going to buy it, theres a few tiny scratchs and the paintwork needs a good wax but it looked stunning! Mechanically its great, however it needed a wheel bearing and the tax was running out at the end of this month, service is also due soonish.

After pointing all this out I managed to haggle it down to 4400 with 6 months tax thrown in as well.

So a bargin ST220 for £4260! Will get some pictures up soon, but im really happy, it drives really great as well, done a 150mile drive home and it was faultless, oh how I have missed small creature comforts like cruise control as well.

So to summerise, I used to be a bit harsh on mondeos in general, but now I see the error of my ways and think for the money they are almost unbeatable value (or maybe I just got a good deal?!).

WTF
What's wrong with it :\

That's an astonishing deal if it's sound...

Has it done moon mileage? It's about £2-3k too cheap :\

For that price, the tape must be structural surely! I traded in a 2004 diesel zetec s a few months ago for only 500 quid less

64000 miles! There are a few cosmetic light scratchs and the major service is due pretty much now (plugs coolant etc), plus the bearing which ive traced to the rear passengers side (sounded like front from inside cabin, funny how sound travels!).

Other than that its really great, drives straight as an arrow aside from a small amount of tramlining on poor roads, I guess thats one of the downfalls of 18inch wheels!

Really happy with it, going to do the service etc next week so I expect to be stung for 500 odd or there abouts!

The interiour is the grey/cream leather which I guess maybe reflects the price due to its marmite factor? Although from sitting in a lot of half leather/black full leather I think its actually nicer and seems a lot brighter.

I had heard the sat nav was rubbish was various sources so it wasnt high up on my list, but its actually really good, so if anyones looking for one with it id definatly say go for it!

Boooooooooooooooo! :(

Needs must im afraid, with an addition coming to my upstart family I had to let my S go :( If an oppertunity arises in a few years where im in a position to get one (ie if I move somewhere with a garage!!!) then I would buy another in a heartbeat, and with the way prices are dropping Im guessing it won't even be that expensive!

And it definitely isn't a Cat D or anything like that? If all it needs is a good service then that's a proper uber bargain!

Top gear review says 903 sold in 2005. So it's gonna be somewhere between 5 and 10 thousand at a guess. Theres at least 4000 on here....

No cat D, done a HPI before I bought it. Pretty much just needs a major service, ive done around 400 miles in it now and no problems at all, no electrical gremlins, everything works as it should! Guy I got it off seemed in a similar position as me and priced to sell pretty much the same as I did with my S2000, needed a people carrier as his wife was about to pop in 3 weeks!

As it was cheap I might even get it properly detailed to see exactly how many of the small marks in the paint come out completely!
