**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Bought this game yesterday and (despite being a total noob) im having great fun on skirmishes with the AI to get my knowledge of the game to an adequate level. I've always been hopeless at RTS games but im starting to grasp it quite well, I like to think i'm improving :o

How do you guys scout, do you just send an SCV out and keep it alive as long as possible :o:p

I like the game but cant help but feel it simply isn't in the same league as dawn of war and company of heroes in terms of race diversity strategy combat and gameplay, sorry but 3 races just isn't enough and the zerg ? meh who wants to play as them so I view this as a two race rts.

Will only be buying if I can get it for £20 or less.

It's in a completely differant league being that more people are playing it because it's got what DoWII hasn't. Polish and well balanced gameplay. Battle.net completely makes the game as well otheriwise it wouldn't seem as sociable.

they've done everything right with SC2, but it may not be to your tastes. I prefer the 3 races only because it's a lot easier to balance compared to 4 (and I get extremely ragey when games are not balanced and people exploit overpowered characteristics. Ray's are a bit op at the moment, but only if you don't know how to defend against them (as well as a reaper rush). sometimes I can defend rays but early reaper attacks on enemy resources is really bad for them.

A few of the best players in the world play Zerg!

The invite code hasn't shown up in my email yet. :( I think I might just buy it, but I'm more of a watcher than player to be honest!

I would like to know this aswell. So far I have not discovered a dedicated scout unit - is there? If not what do people use?

As Terran:

Early game: SCV scout + hide. Re-use to scout a few minutes later
Later: viking pokes into his base, scans and peon raids on his base, and marines patrolling expansions and at the watch towers.

With Z and P it's a lot easier to scout. P has the observer for mid/late game and Z has free scouts with overlords, along with creep tumors and burrowed lings.

I really need to improve my thinking on startup, providing a gate to my base asap but it's no use if I'm scouted. really hard call to make after that, units or reapers.

Waste of resources.

not really. If you're looking for something useful in scouting (i.e. are actually going to get something out of looking at their base) and can keep the factory alive, it can be really useful in terms of not only gaining scouting info but also providing line of sight. Then of course you have a fully functional production facility afterwards.

For scouting, as Zerg I use speed-overlords/overseers, as protoss get observers all over the map and as terran..meh i'm terrible as terran :p Scans i suppose, reapers can also be useful.

Anyone want to do some games and get some practise in give me a bell - HELLIOSA - 813

another match lost because my team didn't build units but managed to build 4 barracks and a load of other crap :\.

if anyone wants to know a terran tactic add me: [email protected] (if u add people on battlenet by email) i won 2 out of 3 games with it, still need to test it a bit more but so far so good, it works in the 'practice' matches to.

I am on the 5th mission on single player and really enjoying it! Won't be touching MP until I am done with SP.

It is such a polished game! Some real thought and attention has been given while keeping the feeling of SC1.. loving it! I can almost forgive the £39.99 price I paid.

I'm quite new to Starcraft and I don't know many people that play it, so I could do with a practice partner :)
