**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Just completed mission 7 (playing on hard) Really really loving this game :)

However....I have so far wasted 2 evenings attempting to get the best defence acheivement on mission 3. Only managed 3 out of the 4 targets so far. Damn it's hard!

Just received my CE :D. Most impressive CE I have ever owned (and probably the first actually worth its price). The USB stick is pure awesome. Oh, and Starcraft 2 is in there too :p

Sadly, 1 hour until I need to catch a train :(

most games dont have lan now days, but i was refering more to close quarters 4v4 spec stuff. Like in the same room spec as opposed to halway across the world.

Easiest way to get this is get 4 barracks, 3 pumping out marines with a reactor and one with a tech lab churning out medics and try to keep them queued constantly.

Push out at about the 10 minute mark and destroy 2 hatcheries, once they drop fall back and build a second army, while your waiting they will have rebuilt the 2 hatcheries you destroyed so just mass your forces and eliminate the remaining ones.

Salvaging the 2 bunkers on higher ground helps to get a fast start imo, you need a ton of supply depos and scvs fast.

Edit - has anyone tried any mods yet? I've found 'A Standard Tower Defense' really addictive.

So finished my normal playthrough which didnt problem me at any point and done a few missions on hard as well, so im thinking of throwing myself into the deep end and trying a brutal play through.

Any advice on which research to go for and which tech upgrades to buy?

I did that one last night. Took me three or four tries... I a few things (attacking very early - total no-go, turtling up until the last possible minute - again, no go - the zerg are too strong). Anyway, in the end I did it with a balanced approach:

* Move up to the inner base immediately: the single point of entry makes things a lot easier and cheaper to defend.

* Build an extra two bunkers very early, and fill them (next to the two that are already in place).

* build a third bararcks early on, with tech lab for medics. The other two have reactor for marines.

* Attack with around 10 marines, and 4 medics (I was at about 13 mins remaining, I think). Go out the right-hand entrance, and collect the first set of survivors. Go immediately after a zerg attack to maximise time before the next wave

* Move around anti-clockwise to collect the rest of the survivors.

* Have reinforcements wait near your bunkers as you move round (don't try to rally outside the base or try to jopin up piecemeal - it's just asking for trouble).

* Once the final survivors appear, bring up your new forces from the base.

* With the large group of marines and medics (I like 3:1 ratio), attack north. You'll lose around half the forces.

* Head back to where you rallied previously, and bring in the forces that have built while you were attacking. Should be back to about the strength of the force you attacked with first

* Head south-west (there are 3 hatcheries there), and kill the rest. Watch out for the midas (?) worms. Once the original base defences have gone, it's worth splitting your forces in two. Leave one force where the worms spawn, and use the others to take out two of the hatcheries.

I've done about half of the maps on hard now, going for all the achivements along the way, and this is the second toughest one so far. "The dig", around mission 10, has a crazy-hard achivement (kill 50 protoss structures). I eventually found a neat way to do it pretty easily though :)

Only thing i think is missing is the chat rooms ala WC3, was great fun watching players argue over small disagreements which erupts into a 1v1 grudge match.

im also missing the chat rooms like old bnet, however i just think its a matter of time before they get implemented, theres so much demand for it.

Had some cool 2v2's last night with kreeee/krono and a few others :)

playing all these team games however has made my 1's game suffer, failing at it big time atm, still stuck in platinum!

Wasn't so fun from my side :(

The 3v3 was by far the worst. It was more of a 3v2v1

Mr Hand,
When you hear "Your allies <insert object here> is under attack" that means. Look at what is being attacked and if its by a large force, run your units over to the fight. Not stand outside your base sunbathing your marines.

Also try to not queue your units up in your buildings, you should only be building one unit (2 if you have a reactor) per building at a time. If you have enoughmoney to queue 3 marines, then you have enough money to build another Barracks. More barracks spitting out marines = more marines.
Also a marine only army will get spanked by ... well almost everything else. Some murders would also have been beneficial (as would tanks and medivacs).

dont get arsey i wasnt concentrating at all when we played, consdering i was making a sheperds pie at the same time lol hence why i missed the shout out.

it was only a friendly game, i was trying a something different build and i did say i was a bit busy before the game started.

Yeah the 3v3 was rubbish, but then again, 3v3's are alllways rubbish!

Enjoyed the 2v2's though, i even managed to somehow play as protoss :/ dunno how that happened!

do you have to make a battlenet account for this, I don't want to play online?

I think I'm correct in saying, you need a battle.net account, you can play the single player off-line but you only get achievements when you are connected to the internet.

Playing online, obviously requires you to be connected to the internet :)
