Well, after not being able to find a suitable Abarth 500 for my girlfriend, started to have a look at one of these.

Looking at an 09 1.4TB 155 Veloce with just under 7k on the clock on a private sale..

Any opinions on these, what I should check for etc?

I can't believe how much small 'fashionable' cars cost. The Mito and Fiat 500 do my head in. Just get a Fiat Panda and save a shed load of money, besides this time next year there will be something else out not only destroying the value of your fashionable car but making it look dated as well.

Really? From looking about newish cars at this price point, I thought the build quality/finish was one of the best around!

2 examples, the trim round the sunroof was fraying at one end and the silver insert in the gear nob looked like a part from a cheap chinese toy. I know its nit picking but this was a brand new car.

I was disappointed as I like the look of them, its also a lot smaller than it seems from the outside and the boot was no bigger than a Mini's.

Veloce is a nice trim level, I do like the Mito

What engine is it? does it have cam belts? when do they need changing? is it a T Spark?

I found the build quality good, certainly much better than the 6 month old Mondeo on my drive where the paint on the interior plastic is cracking and peeling already and the sound deadaning is coming out from under the rear seats,

I'd question running costs and find an independant to service it

Where are you I could suggest a few

Its a 1.4 turbo, pushing out 155bhp. Had a test drive in it today and it certainly seems like a good drive.

Cambelt service is at 72k or 4 years I believe. Servicing is every 18k or 2 years I think.

In NI, so am a bit stuck for good independant servicing. With such a long interval, I can probably stomach main dealer prices for the first few years anyway.

What's the turbo based on, Alfa aren't known for their turbos, is it a FIAT engine?

Had my 147 from new to 100k, yes expensive to maintain but reliable and great to drive.

The Mito is a supermini apparently, the Giulietta is the 147's replacement.
That would explain why its so small.

I'd keep looking for an Abarth 500.

Considered the Punto Evo?

It was the slowest hot hatch in the top gear group test last month, they didnt like anything about it if thats any help.
