...I used to love playing some of the old Champ Man games, but since it split to FM and CM I am unsure as to which to get.

I have been reading that FM is the better game, but I don't want a technically complicated game where you have to devote a short period of your life to it to do any good. I would prefer it if it was fairly easy to get into and not too complex so I can maybe play it for a few weeks/months and then leave it alone. Also I usually like to look online to find kick ass formations etc to really help my chosen team along the way.

Bearing the above in mind, which would suggest as being the easier game to jump into?

There is only 1 to choose and that is Football Manager, while is may be complicated it now comes with a big tutorial and tactics helper so really is easy to get in to. You can also pick it up for £10 just about anywhere.

I really liked Premier Manager 98 LMA Manager 2001 on PS1 and the 2005 version on PS2, they were the right balance between tactical and simple. I agree FM is amazing, but yer I feel it's just too big for people that wanna jump in, play for a bit and whatever. Surely CM or PM (that are still around) cover those bases nowadays??

I personally love Fifa Manager :p

However, the norm seems to be that Football Manager is the best out there :p

Thanks for all the replies - I still think FM might be a bit too complex for what I want. The last footy management game I played was on PSP (can't remember which one it was) and it was spot on for my needs. It let me buy and sell players, decide formation and tactics, sort squad to play and make a few board requests and that was about it - nice and simple. If I have to get into training and loads of other stuff I just wont find enough time to put in.

Ok, decided to go for CM2010. Can anyone recommend a good website for tactics etc as I want to get Hinckley United into the Premier League and then Europe ;)

Everyone said Football Manager!

Seriously, FM is superior in every aspect compared to CM.
