Hi folkes,

Looking for a bit of help.

AMD phenom x4 @ 3Ghz
OCZ reaper DDR2 6gigz @ 800 5 5 5 18
latest bios version (however it hasnt made any difference throughout)
2 x HD5770 ATi

Problem is=

I have done a lot of testing recently using various programs that friends have told me to and it is proving the crossfire is working. HOWEVER, when i benchmark games such as flight simulator x and battlefield bad company 2 which i use regurarly i get around 120FPS with 1 graphics card running! (no crossfire enabled)

Soon as i turn crossfire mode on i do the same (exactly) tests again and typically the system seems slightly slower also the main part is the FPS has now dropped to half usually. APPROX 60-70 FPS.

Now i havent messed around with anything at all iv changed all the bridges that doesnt make a difference latest drivers for EVERYTHING which hasnt changed anything. Changed all the settings throughout ATi and others hasnt changed anything really. Believed to have the correct BIOS settings that doesnt change anything either.

should there be a performance decrease or should i see a GAIN in FPS?

At the moment im just playing single GPU with 1 graphics card running since im getting higher frames on the 1...

Also did this today to check each card. i have taken both cards out checked them over. Replaced 1 of the cards back in and ran the comp tested again and nice an high frames. Taken that card out replaced it with the other 1 done the same and exactly the same outcome, nice high frames.

putting both cards in once more running same test after configuring it to run in xfire mode i get poor frames =( ? ? ? ? ? what on earth is happening any ideas?

power supply? its 850watt supply.

Any ideas on how to get both cards working perfectly?

Regards,
Martin.

what drivers are you using? 10.6 did this for my cf 5870's by only using ~50% of each gfx core. i rolled back to 10.4 and all was well again

10.7 i think? if thats the newest then its 10.7

Do you NEED the profiles installed(just noticed it on ati's page)? I have never seen them before however i can try that!

Cheers.

Well it does run usually between 70-120 depending on lots of things but its weird. When its at 120 its perfect, but for some reason when it lowers to around 70 i get a little mouse lag... Specifically when aiming at someone there bouncing all over the place and im attempting to chase with the crosshair its solid because the mouse is always slightly behind. However, when i did run xfire and got low frames there was none of that!? =-S

any ideas?

Definetly roll back to the 10.4 drivers. Depending on the res you play, your CPU might be bottlenecking your cards.

Bottleknecking? i understand what you mean but why/how would it be doing this?

Iget swift load times with most stuff on current drivers with single GPU. so frustrating =/

According to the manual and the box it has xfire splatterd all over it... it has 4 pci-e slots. 2 blue 2 black. Book says when running xfire mode have it in slot 1 and 3 for x16 mode. when i put 1 gpu like right now GPU-Z mentions its running in x16 the now. i noticed when in xfire it said x8 again i duno what any of all this means so...

also as mentioned above i havent ever had the xfire profiles installed only the main driver part?

also i should have mentioned, 1 gpu in 3d mark i got something around 14,000 points.

when xfire was "enabled" (ha) i re tested and it scored 17,500 points.

however visual in game it gets worse =/ (if that helped...)

nope havent rolled back yet. should i do that instal the 10.4 drivers with 1 card and the profiles then add the 2nd and see what happens? what iv i get the same results?

if nothing changes?

well then we'll have to look at other potential problems. but there are a shed load of threads across many forums stating that cat 10.6 and 10.7 causing all sorts of problems with crossfire.

think positive,

its the drivers
its the drivers

positive things happen to positive thinkers! :p
