Thinking about buying the following to upgrade my machine for video editing.

1 x Asus P6X58D Premium Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
1 x Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366)
1 x Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive
2 x OCZ Gold Low Voltage 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C10 (2000MHz) Triple Channel (OCZ3G2000LV6GK)

The PC parts I'm swapping over are

Q6600 G0 @ 3.2 Ghz
Abit IP35 Pro mobo
8gb OCZ ram

So, whaddya reckon?

nothing wrong with what you already have.

but if you do decide to get that upgrade, just change the ram to anything else, the ocz gold is pants.

Will check out what other RAM is out there. The 6600 G0 is fine for 90% of things but rendering out video takes a while and I know the i7 is particularly good at that kinda thing otherwise I'd just stick with my 6600 to be honest.

Perhaps go for Asus P6X58D-E? Apparently a few reviews say that paying the £80 more for the premium isn't worth it. You can use the money to buy better RAM as OCZ Gold aren't the best know for reliability.

If you really want to upgrade now:

I have a raid 5 setup with 5 x 500gb which I get good speeds from plus another two single drives for temp storage and stuff, the SSD would just be for my OS.

Got me thinking about waiting now, the Q6600 hasn't let me down. I might just hold off everything and wait a bit longer on the SSDs to fall in price a bit more, not sure if I can hold myself back though :)

Thanks for the spec list Krugga, if I can't resist the itch and I end up ordering it will be that system, thanks.
